Is there something wrong with my X TYPE
Hi guys having read this advert on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-JAGUAR-X-...item2a0602f292 (see petrol consuption in the ad)
Have i got a problem with mine - mine is an 04 reg petrol which is serviced with no expence spared and i travel to Skegness quite often none stop 130 miles dead from my location.. i have a feather like touch on the throttle and never hard accellerate - hardly ever exeed 70 mph were possible and i only get 26 mpg at best car has not done 20,000 mls yet. Question is do i have a problem. How do you get 35 mpg out of one of these...Any advice please guys.

Didn't see the add, but even with differences in the size of a gallon between US and UK, I can't imagine any scenario where you could actually pull mid 30's for MPG in this car without extensive modifications. Perhaps a FWD petrol, if one existed, maybe...
ferret your stated MPG is pretty much on the nose for highway cruising at lower speeds. I'm happy with 25mpg on long (400+ miles) highway trips, and usually it's 23 or 24mpg with all the hills around here. 19 or 20 around town these days is the norm for me.

Actually, that might not be that hard to believe. This is a 2.5 engine on that car. Plus, it might be front wheel drive only. I thought there were some front drive cars early on in Europe. I could be wrong on that though. The UK gallon is 20% more than the US gallon. So, if you would be getting 29MPG in the US that would translate to 34.8MPG in the UK. So, not out of the realm of possibility. Plus, if you calculate it just off the display on the dash it would probably be optimistic. I know mine is about 1.5 gallons higher on the display than when calculated by actual use. I know I have averaged over 31 on a steady cruise to Chicago and back (about 150 miles) in the summer without a ton of traffic. And that was measured and I have an AWD model with the 3.0 engine and a manual transmission. So, if you aren't that heavy footed and it's warm out, you can get some decent mileage. Also, keep in mind the guy is trying to sell the car too. He says 35 and you buy it and complain you get 28 he'll just say it's how you drive. Buyer beware!

I have a 2.5SE with manual box and on a 150 round trip averaged 33mpg using cruise and sitting at an indicated 70mph. In the summer and with no wind this might make it to 35mpg, but I doubt much more and with an auto it's got to be less.
PS My car has FJSH and the tyres are all at the correct pressure.
