Thermo, here's a mystery for you to advise me. For a few months, it has sounded like cheap, hard corded snow tires coming from the rear of my Kitty. Constant hum that does change a bit in volume in acceleration and braking down at highway or city street driving. Few days ago dropped the rear seats to haul some items and the sound was more noticeable that I chalked up to more echo area and no seat sound deadening, as I was driving through one of our ubiquitous canyons, I noticed as I made a sweeping turn to the right (passenger side) the sound went dead silent. Tried to the left and no change. Only to the right.
curiously, my understanding and your many posts have always lead folks to do that test and if the sound got louder, it indicated wheel bearing on the opposite side of your turn (i.e., turn right, sound increases = left bearing). So never experienced nor heard of, and internet search returns no guidance on the "hum" going dead silent.
Any guidance?

Is it silent only DURING the turn to the right, or did it remain silent after that turn?
I currently have this annoying noise like "tyres in the snow" coming from my front S-Type tyres. There is definitely no snow here (never was... ).
I strongly assume that it is the actual tyres making that noise. The Jag came with those tyres, Yokohama brand (which is actually not a bad brand), but it's DOT 2418.
The DOT number tells you, when tyres were produced - 2418 means that they were manufactures in the 24th week in 2018. That is more than 5 years ago.
As I wrote, I brought the car with those tyres, thus I got no idea of what happened with those tyres in all those years... - like: Were they always parked in the hot sunlight?
I suspect that the rubber got pretty hard and that that is the reason for the noise. I was planning since a long time to swap the front with the rear tyres to see, if that makes any difference...- but have not done that yet.
Dell, based on what you are describing, I would most likely say that it is your right rear hub assembly needing replaced (ie, wheel bearing). I am cautious to say that it is the CV joints as those should produce a sound all the time, underload or not. But,I would not rule it out at this point in time. Just saying it is a low probability.
Recently did my RHS rear wheel bearing for similar noise but mine is not AWD, so a simpler change out.
BTW....my replacement bearing assembly came with the speed sensor, so I have also removed the good sensor from my failed bearing assembly to keep as a spare just in case it is needed later.
Actually, since I read Dell's initial post on top, the image of driving thru an Utah canyon was stuck in my mind...
And now I found I nice video, visualizing, what I imagined already:
Indeed, I nice test-ground for wheel-bearings...
And one would actually expect to see some lone Shoeshones and/or Navajos on horses to appear behind every corner...
Or at least some Pony-Express riders commuting between the 65 Pony Express stations in Utah out of the 190 stations in total...
This is the one I was driving when I noticed the change in sound. I moved to North Logan last year from Davis County (Clearfield) which is closer to Ogden Canyon drive. There is also the Weber Canyon drive to Evanston Wyoming. Lots of other canyons as mentioned in the "Sardine Canyon" video. The Logan Canyon one is exquisite and ends at Bear Lake =
Nice, the first video reminds me of Switzerland and New Zealand (obviously the roads there would not be that wide).
In the second video a nice old barn caught my eye: At timecode 4:27 there is a nice old Dutch barn in the picture...
Dell, wish I had more time. I am north of you in Boise. I am sure we could crank off that hub in a matter of 2 hours or so. But, I am leaving before I am sure we could arrange something. I love the valleys and peaks of this area. I recently drove the Columbia River Gorge to get to the shoreline down in Newport, OR. Always a great set of views to see.
Damn, what a missed chance to meet the guru, lol. Getting harder and harder to ambulate and work on stuff (diagnosed with stage 4 B2 terminal cancer 1 year ago). The treatments and drugs have kicked my butt this past year, lmao!
Boise always reminds me of my home town of Ogden, Utah. Idk why, but it just does.
