I like the AWD too. Never thought I would need it but it grips the road so much better.

For me that is the X-Type's strength - it looks like a Jaguar, instantly recognisable and with four wheel drive it really hunkers down in the wet - I had expected it would be better cornering and in the snow - but was surprised that at speed on the motorway in the wet where with two wheel drive it always feels a bit lighter and not quite so in control the x-type four wheel drive feels like it hunkers down with the no lightness in the steering that I get with two wheel drive cars.. for me that makes it a good family car - safe, secure in inclement weather..

Also though, where my last Jag was a beautiful cruiser, the x-type is a fun car :-) Give me a curvy country road, and with the four wheel drive and manual gearbox it ticks all the boxes for an exhilarating summer drive :-)

Back to my point about the X, straight horsepower does not win the race. The ability to hold your speed in the corners and curves makes a big difference, and that is one thing the X can do. Anytime that I'm hitting a corner hard, I know that if I start to slip, I need to hit the accelerator with high RPMs to regain control. However, this move, when skidding, is non-intuitive for most drivers, but it works with AWD, esp. when the car is lowered, and has sport suspension.
Yes, I love the awd and handling of the X, but there is a bit too much understeer in the stock set-up. I'm working on fixing that though. I really needs about 100 more HP, but that transfer case...
