throttle body motor
ok here's what happened, i was cleaning the MAF and TB, when hooking everything back up, the connector for the throttle body motor(2 wires,a red one and green one) crumbled, so in trying to hook them up, I shorted the red wire to the 12v pos side of the battery, got both wires on but now have a n engine system fault and gear box fault, code P1229 and No throttle response ! the car will start fine, and idle, but when i step on the pedal, nothing ! what can it be ???

What year model are we working on? What engine? What transmission?
I am looking at the wiring diagram for 2002 X type 2.5 and 3.0, and it shows that cable with red and green wires going straight from the throttle motor to the Engine Control Module.
Check to make sure the wires are good from the ECM connector to the throttle motor connector. If they ring out OK, you may be looking for a new ECM. The green wire goes to pin 080 on the ECM connector and the red goes to pin 106. You'll need that oddball 5 point torx bit to get that ECM connector loose.
There is a throttle motor relay, R11, on the power distribution fuse box. Worth a check, too.

maximum, from the sounds of things, you blew the throttle body motor portion of the ECM and what is happening in short is that the driver for the throttle body is fried and therefore, as you step on the pedal, the driver can not move the throttle body motor.
As for the new ECM, that has been a hit and miss sort of thing with our cars. Worst case, you can get the new ECM and see if it will work. Otherwise, you are going to need to get the car towed to a dealership and they will be able to program the ECM for you. Should be relatively cheap since it should be able to be done in about an hour.

I put a 2003 engine in my 2002 car and it hooked right up and runs great so you might be OK with either 2002 or 2003 computers in there, depending on what's available out there.
Also try www.car-parts.com
I found my engine on that site. You can enter your zip and search by distance and maybe find something close by.

One more bit of info. The ECM probably has all kinds of info stored in it like your mileage and VIN, maybe even key codes and starter lockout transponder codes and who knows what all. Point is you may put a used one in there and it be just fine but still won't work, or maybe not quite right. So you will still want to go to a dealer and have the program correct for your car loaded into the new(er) ECM like Chris said.
