Update on tires
Thank you everybody for your input. I've finally made up my mind and went for the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225R45 17" rated 91Y. Combined with a fresh alignment, I get a great ride!
They were a little bit pricier than the MXV4's but I love the tread and road grip.
The mechanic told me that the ContiProContact I had were cracked and unevenly worn. No wonder The car was vibrating at highway speeds...

Glad you are once again traveling on a smooth ride! You mentioned the tires being worn unevenly. Of course, that could just be related to the alignment, but it could also be sign of something else being worn, like control arms and such. Not trying to panic you, but just thought I would point that out as I would hate to hear that your new tires are starting to get worn out after only a couple months.

Thanks a lot for your input. The mechanic told me my alignment was off but not that much. He gave me the pre and post printouts. He told me my rims were all good and that the suspension (and related items) and the breaks were all good. My knowledge being limited, should I still be worried about the control arms?

Were they worn unevenly in the front or rear? If it is the rear and the tops of your tires are slanted in towards the inside of the car chances are the lower control arm bushings are worn and need to be replaced. Very common problem with our cars and is a relatively easy and inexpensive fix.

I am far from an expert on the alignment specs, but if I understand the reports it looks like your toe in was off in the front and it looks like they fixed it, so you should be good to go. As for the worn bushing, I believe it could cause a little vibration, but you would feel that more in your seat as opposed to having a vibration in the steering wheel. If you felt a vibration with the old tires it also could have been that one or both of the front tires were out of balance. If it is driving great now with the new tires just relax and enjoy. I usually do an inspection of the tires when I wash my car just to make sure that if I see something unusual I can stay on top of it.
