Last fall the DSC amber light came on. My '07 x-type which I bought as a certified used in '09 from Jag dealer had not had given me any trouble 'til then. DSC fault also caused the cruise control not to function. Dealer ordered $1,300 part covered under warranty. Waited 3 weeks with no word from dealer. Finally called and was told Ray Catina, Monmouth County is no loner selling or servicing Jaguars. Advised to go to local Rover dealer who will be taking over the Jaguar business. Orders from Tata parent company of Jaguar, Jags and Rover have to be sold and serviced from the same dealership. Ray Catina didn't have the room for Rover so.......Anyway Monmouth Jag/Rover could not find a code for DSC so they wouldn't replace part. January warranty ran out. DSC light went out and everything was fine until.3 weeks ago. On a trip from NJ to Kentucky DSC light came on 7 times. Each time I stopped the light would go out. Contacted Ray Catina in Middlesex county found original complaint from last year got Jaguar to honor warranty and replaced part. This saved me at least $1,500. Since warranty expired I thought about an extended warranty but the cost was $1,300 a year with $100 deductable. Car only has 65K miles. Well last week the fuel door won't lock, and yesterday no start. AAA towed to Monmouth Jag/Rover. Now waiting for them to call with the cost for repair. I have a feeling $1,300 might have been the cheaper way to go. Jack

to me it seems like your problem is in your charging system (alternator, battery, etc.) I say this because the dtc light is the first thing to come on when your system is under its nominal voltage. Then if you get a no start a little bit later, I would say that it's all centered around not getting enough charge. Maybe could be as easy as a couple corroded battery cables, but it may be something like a new alternator too.

Thanks Disquay, turns out the battery decided to self destruct overnight. All systems were checked and everything was fine. New battery $500 Need a new fuel door latch part $17 install $150. I guess it's about time I start trying most of the repairs myself. I've saved tons of money on my '98 XK8 that way. Jack

This was not a special battery other then having the Jaguar logo on the top. Price of battery was actually $276 which is $100 more then any price I found on the web. The rest is labor to install. Labor included checking if battery would take a charge and making sure there wern't any shorts causing battery drain. I was stuck that day. Car on flat bed where to go? AAA opened a brand new repair facility just up the road from Jag dealer. They would do basic repairs on Jags but not any "involved" repairs. I wanted to know what caused the battery to die overnight with no warning. I had an idea it was going to be a big problem. My XK8's power windows start to act up when it's battery was getting old. This X-type gave me no warning. Towing car to Ray Catina Jag in Middlesex county was a little far especially in the torential rain we were having that day. Lesson learned. Received an email survey from Jaguar of NA asking about experience. I repeated all of the above. They asked if I would like to be contacted by a represenative from Jag of NA . I said "Oh yeah" Jack

Update.....Received a phone call from Jaguar/Rover of Monmouth county expressing their apologies for my problems and asked me to please see the service manager next time I visit the dealership. Also received an email from Jaguar of North America pretty much saying how concerned they were that I wasn't happy and they will be contacting the dealership. My reply to them was basically "if it ain"t broke don't try to fix it". Almost all of the Jag owners I've talked to in the past 10 years were more then happy with the treatment they received from Ray Catena Jaguar of Monmouth. The few I talked to in the Jaguar/Rover of Monmouth service waiting "corner" didn't think they would continue their relationship with the brand. There are a lot of Jag owners in Monmouth county NJ. My XK8, I'll most likely keep until it dies. My X-type (aka wifes' car) will need to be replaced soon. With what............Jack
