I wish I had those rates. I'm paying about $5k a year (I need to call Geico)! My insurance went up a few hundred after I totaled my Jag even though the other person was at fault and was ticketed for running a red light. Didn't make a difference, they can increase rates whenever they want. Thinking about insurance makes me nauseous.

How old are you? Don't you live in cali? Generally they don't raise the rates unless something happens. Like for the last 2 years with state farm because there was no claim or I got no tickets or accidents my rates stayed the same. Also the cost of everyones insurance is calculated on a set amount of claims and accidents so they charge everyone accordingly. If those claims/accidents don't happen they actually refund you the money, I got a like 30 bucks each year because their projected amount of claims were never reached. Basically they made a ton of money that year so they figured they could squeeze a couple of checks to everyone to share the wealth they just earned.

I'm 22 and in Florida. I have a bunch of tickets and bought the car new so I'm sure that factors in. Anyway, Im with Progressive and I plan on switching because Im sure I can find a better rate. $5k a year is astronomical!

Wow, thats sooo crazy for insurance. My insurance WAS only $1100 a year, and I'm a teen driver with a Jag. The insurance company is still yet to come look at my car, but I'll post what my rate goes up to once they check it out. I really hope its not going to be in the 5,000 range like you're paying. Ouch, $5,000 a year plus car payments, maitenance, and gas? ****, I wouldn't be able to drive again until I'm out of college...

The insurance was probably in his parents name or his older sibling was the primary driver perhaps...otherwise 1100 is way too cheap. PLPD for me in high school in my parents name was 50 bucks a month so 600 for plpd in my parents name a year...1100 has to be parents name...

Arden, I have progressive. I called them one day and asked why my rates were so high ($1476.00 per year) They said my rates are not high at all. I told them that "I am going to shop around because I just went with them for some unknown reason. I never even checked with any other company." The lady put me on hold, then another person picked up the phone and after a few minutes they offered a lower rate.. $960 per year! I then said "well I have been paying much more than that with you guys for some time. about $30 per month more for the same insurance. Can anything be done about that?" They refunded the differance to my bank account!! If I were you I would just call and try it. Can't hurt. Then again I have a flawless driving record.

At first, my insurance was at $650 because it was my parents name, but then the insurance company did a family check and saw I recieved my license. So my parents put my name on the work truck [ford ranger, which is a piece of garbage beater] and my insurance went to $1100. So no, my name wasn't on the Jag in the insurance policy, but my name is still on it.

Man jvegas I'd like to know how you paid that little for insurance! I had nothing on mine until the pot hole incident and I'm married with a renters policy and multi car discount and paid about 189 a month...

alois your on your parents insurance as a driver but your primary vehicle is the beater, the insurance on the jag would surely be much higher if you were the main driver. Hopefully your insurance company doesn't screw you over too terribly bad...

Yea, I definitely think I can get a lower rate. Though, I do have A LOT of prior tickets and made a good handful of claims so I'm not sure I'll get anything too drastic but it's definitely worth a shot.

I got my learners at 15 and my license at 16 and boy did I do a lot of stupid ****. I still get mad at myself when I remember some of the stupid **** I did only 5 years ago. I remember doing 140 in a residential area and thankfully nothing happened but I felt so stupid the next day...and even today. Hopefully this serves as a lesson and I'm glad you're ok. Good luck, and if you get another jag...don't trash it too. LOL!

Haha bigdreams, 140 in a residential? Thats crazy. The fastest I got my car up to was 120 on the highway on straight away. Now that I had my accident, I still regret stuff like that but its all in the best. I got back in the drivers seat of a car for the first time since the accident today and I was so nervous. It was like the first time I had ever driven all over. Ugh.
