Tranny Flush and HID Question

Tranny Flush and HID Question
Hello everyone. I have a 2003 x with 56,000 miles on it. I have heard some stories of people trannys going bad in their x types. I just want to be cautious and have a tranny flush. I dont really want to bring it to jaguar and have it done because I dont wantto pay a million dollars to have it done. Can auto places like good year, firestone and Jiffy lubes do this task? Also is there a specil type of tranny oil that I should have them put in other than the stuff that they carry at their shops?
Second question.
I want to install some HID's in the head lights. Where should I look to get a decent price on some HID kits and which brand is recommended by you Jag people? Also how hard are they to install, I was thinking of doing it myself.
Thanks for all the help!

RE: Tranny Flush and HID Question
I take it you're talking about the automatics??
Well, Jaguar claims it's "sealed for life," but most of us disagree.
Unfortunately, as a closed unit, there isn't an accessible dip-stick, so lube shops will not be able to draw and flush new fluid via the inlet for the dip-stick. So basically we're screwed that way. What others have done is used the drain plug and topped via an inlet under the battery. There's a recent post somewhere by Jim; I'm sure if you search you'll find it.
I'm actually in the same boat as you, '03 X-type w/a little less mileage. One issue that I sternly disagree with Jim's post (IIRC, it's another member's method, posted by Jim) is the use of Mercon V. I would not use this fluid in our vehicles. I've talked with a few techs now and they, too, do not agree with the use of this fluid; so user beware. The fluid I would recommend is Jatco fluid, but good luck finding it in the States. This is my current predicament, where to find this fluid.
Perhaps, our British brothers would like to help us out?!?!
Not sure about the HIDs, lots of people say no to Ebay since most are made in China, but IMO most major companies like Phillips even have their ballasts manufactured in China. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in on the matter, though.
Good luck. If you find more info about the trans fluid, please let me know.

RE: Tranny Flush and HID Question
Hi,
Your first question has been easily done..have a look here:-
Easy transfer case oil change
Your 2nd question...loads of people in the UK have bought and successfully fitted HID kits from www.mydepots.com who also have an ebay shop where they are cheaper.
HID kits on ebay that work

RE: Tranny Flush and HID Question
For the HID's make sure you get no higher than 6000ks. i have 8ks and they look great, but arent very bright. Install isnt "that" bad, if you have small hands, its really cramped, especially in the driverside quarters. but as long as the first thing you do is extend then factory headlight wire, you'll be in good shape to do it easily.

RE: Tranny Flush and HID Question
all stock HIDS are in the 600k range. Its the best for lighting output. Secondly I have never seen hids that cheap that actually work/last. I have heard that phillips is the best brand to go with as far as durability and reliability. I have a site bookmarked on my other computer that has a bunch of HID/Xenon suppliers. I will try to post it tomorrow if i remember

It could well be that the more expensive suplliers get theirs from mydepots and stick on their cut.
Also the prices on the auction site have been reduced even further since I queried their ebay shipping charges compared to their website shipping charges. As a result of getting nowhere querying them about this I then reported every single H1 kit they listed as unfair shipping charges with Ebay explaingin the situation to them.
After a short while Ebay couldnt do anything about the shipping charges but immediately afterwards mysepots dropped the price of kits....coincidence?...I dont think so

weird timing about this thread....
just last week i was talking with the rep from that site via their support chat and he informed me that it is necessary to purchase the relay harness to make the system work correctly with the jaguar x-type. now i don't know if it is really necessary or if they just wanted an extra $40 from me.

Lots of Jaguarforum.co.uk members have fitted these successfully no problems.A lot of more expensive companies only give a 12 month warranty but Mydepots testeach component before they are shipped and the ballasts and bulbs come with 14 months limited warranty from all factory defects. If any component fails within warranty period, they will replace the defective component.

RE: Tranny Flush and HID Question
I went to BUCKMR2's recommended website and this is what it said, for everyone to see:
Auto Transaxle Oil: JTIS Spec: WSS-M2C922-A1 automatic transmission fluid. From the Jaguar spec 7/2004 - Use of any other fluids may result in a transmission malfunction or failure. Intervals Normal Maintenance Not necessary. Filled for life. Severe Duty Maintenance Change the fluid at 48,000 km (30,000 miles) intervals. It was very difficult interpreting the factory spec. Then I discovered a factory bulletin online. It is attached at the bottom of this post and an excerpt is listed for brands. Shell is a popular brand in the US and it looks to be a Mercon V type fluid. Use the Shell pns. listed to match compatibility. Jatco makes their own recommended fluid, but I have no idea how one would purchase it. Brands: All of the following come from the service bulletin attached on the bottom of this post - Recommended fluids Esso LT 71141; Shell ATF 3403 M115; Shell M1375.4; MERCON V XT-5-QM ATF; IDEMITSU K17; Jatco 3100 PL085. Jatco is preferred if you can find it. Capacity: 2.5L and 3.0L. Approx 8.32 US Qts. Refill – (Initial fill 9.3 qts)
So basically I can use anyone of these then right?

RE: Tranny Flush and HID Question
I think Dextron compatibility should be checked first and foremost . I would use Dextron VI specs tranny oil . We tried to use Castrol Magnatec 10W40 and our Jag Specialist had the oil put off the car he said the reason was quite simple . It was not a suitable oil for the car ('88 XJ40 3.6 ) and if we kept using it we might have damaged the crank due to low pressure [&:].
In a nutshell, the mosr pricey oil doesn't mean it's the best choice for your car .

RE: Tranny Flush and HID Question
Well said cadi...pretty sure royal purple is compatible with all cars but I'd email them directly scuba to find out what their policy is and what they warrant or what not....if your car does get messed up were you supposed to let a professional do the work? I know the warranty with all car audio generally states that a professional has to install for the warranty to be in effect...
