Trans. fluid check?
#2
The "correct" way to check is to be under the car, with the engine running, then remove a plug from the trans and see if oil spills out... Or something silly like that.
We all here just remove the drain plug, up to 3.5 qts will come out (depending how full it was to start with) then refill using 3.5 qts, this will ensure the correct amount is in there.
Not an ideal way, but thats how we do it.
To flush the trans oil completely we do that process 3 times
Do NOT use regular ATF!
Castrol transmax for import vehicles is the common cheap alternative to jaguars $30 per quart oil, there are a couple others u can use too, not sure what they are
Hope that helps

Im attaching a pic of the correct drain plug.
It is on the underside of the transmission, facing the road.
I use a 15/16th's socket on it.
I have removed it plenty of times and never changed the crush ring

Here is what I did - went to Dollar store and bought turkey baster. Took the bulb off the clear plastic tube of baster. I put that narrow end into the fill hole of transmission after taking out rubber plug. Then into the larger opening of baster tube I inserted my standard long transmission fluid funnel. That worked perfect and I refilled Castrol Import fluid using that combination of funnel and tube from turkey baster

My (new to me) car has 105k miles. After studying the posts in this thread I tackled the ATF change. I removed the battery; doing so makes this service really easy, plus never hurts to give the battery terminals a little attention. The fill plug is the one nearest the water pump pulley. The larger one nearby is a vent plug. First drain gave me exactly 3L of very black thin fluid. I put in 3.5qts of fresh fluid then went for a short drive then returned for the second drain. Fluid drained second time was discolored, but now had some red color to it. This second drain/fill took me all of ten minutes because now I've got the steps down. It's not even necessary to raise the car. The turkey baster/funnel combo (thanks RobinGa) works because the fill port is pretty small. You can bin the rubber bulb as it's not needed. Use a 24mm socket for the drain plug. By the way, you can use the same fluid for the power steering system. I've evacuated the reservoir three or four times now as it's obviously never been touched.
