Transfer Case Oil Change
when changing my tranfer case oil, i discoveredthat refilling with 600 ml is a bit to much. what has happened is that the right side seal *appaered* to be leaking after the change. in a way, i began to worry, because i had not measured the amnount that drained - and the thought that the seal was defective had crossed my mind as something that could be real. however, i took the car in to have the seal inspected further, and my mechanic said that the vent was in the vicinity above the right side seal, and that he believes this is where the oil was coming from. so, something to be aware of...

when filling - it's nice to think you're compensating for the amount of oil you will loose that stays in the fill hose, and the amount you will loose when playing switcheroo with your thumb while replacing the drainplug. that's hard to predict and will be based on the diameter of the fill tubing used, and how many beers you've had...in my case, 600ml was compensating to much.
i thought it would help others toexplain that slight overfill can possibly be misinterpreted as a leaky right seal...and other than that,i don't think there is any danger in overfilling whatsoever. i began noticing oil on the garage floor.
my tool by the way requires no soldering and virtually no assembly. i'd like to post pic of it, but i get an eroor 'file to big'.

RE: Transfer Case Oil Change
well that drain plug isnt really a drain plug.. so when you think you have it all out you dont.. there is still maybe 50-80 ml still in the transfercase..the realdrain is when you remove the flange.. but thats to much work.. subtracting it and measuring it wud of been good.. any more just gets pushed out when heated up..

i think you'll still want a shutoff valve tho - so you can detach and set down the pump after filling without allowing the case to drain back. then you'll be able to unscrew the fitting with one hand and quickly put the plug back in with the other hand without a third hand to fumble with the pump...
