I dunno about the "necessity" to change fluid argument - it is not a bad idea. But I remember buying a VW Beetle with a friend of mine and that thing was in a barn for 30 years with a seized motor. We threw oil in the engine and about a teaspoon in each spark plug hole, towed the car in gear with a Jeep for 10 feet to unseize it and the tranny/motor were fine for years after that. I guarantee the trans wasn't serviced in 40+ years and >100k miles on 1955-state technology.

Back on topic - 74k and no grenades yet. Did trans fluid with Redline and will do TC in summer. BTW - this AWD system is all Jatco stuff shared with Volkswagens, so the fluid doesn't need to be the rediculously-priced Jaguar-only fluid. When you are flushing and going through many quarts, that be be too costly IMO.

Changed fluid out at 60,000 miles. There was actually fluid in there. Now at 68,000. All good. Knock wood.

Smile TC problems!! What problems???

Decided to check out the TC today while I was changing the oil. I raised the drivers side of car about 20 inches couldn't get it any higher with my jacks. Removed the drain plug and it had some gunk on it but not much and no metal particles. I decided that I would add some fresh lube and run it for awhile before changing it out completely. Well to my surprise there was clean lube on the end of the pump tube and when I tried to add lube it immediately began running out of the drain. The TC was full, also there's no indication of any leaking around the case. So I'm just going to leave it alone for now. Also I've mentioned this before but thought I'd bring it up again. I've been told that there should be some pieces of the TC cooler scoop left where it was fastened so I took a real good look today and have to say that there are no pieces hanging on any bolts or screws anywhere near the TC. As far as I can tell this car never had a scoop on it. I check to rear differential also and it is all clean. I added some lube but not much as it began running out pretty quickly. I've decided to leave the transmission alone for now also since it's shifting good.

Green Machine My local Jag indy told me they did not fit the air scoop to cars that did not have the viscous coupling, and the TC oil remained much cleaner than those with the VC. They did not fit the VC after VIN D56272.

110,000 miles and no problems with the TC; however, she did have a new gearbox fitted at 88K (manual).

My 02 has a little bit over 131K. No fluid came out when I removed the plug a week ago. I will flush the case tomorrow for a 2nd time and refill. No problems at this time.

2003 auto, 97K miles now and TC was replaced around 75K miles. Mine had VC go bad, made very loud noise and fuel economy tanked. Keeping eye on the TC air cooling scoop after winter.

OK, But my VIN is 27XXX Build date Jan 1, 2003. The lube in the TC is not simply cleaner than you'd expect it was about the same color as the new I attempted to put in.

One other thing I forgot to mention in my original post. People have been have some trouble getting wrenches to fit the TC drain plug and have used several combination to fit it. What I used was a 1/4in drive with a 1/4in to 3/8 in adapter which worked great with plenty of room to work the ratchet. This worked on the rear differential too.

bump. I had originally thought that the tcase issue meant that 90% of x types would fry their tcases within 100k miles. Very important information. You never hear about it if it doesnt break

What happened with your tc cooling scoop?

also remember to post your year as many of us are curious to the reliability of the t cases with and without the viscous couplings. Thanks!

I've got 136k miles on her. I've never touched the TC, and no problems at all. I recently brought to the dealer since my battery cracked and she went into limp mode. I had no idea it was the battery. Anyway, they inspected like crazy and road tested the car. I asked if I should be concerned about anything, or have them do a trans flush. This was me, a car salesman, asking the jag dealer to make money off of me. They told she runs like a top and they didn't find anything wrong but the battery. He even told me they'd do it if I really wanted, but it wasn't needed and they would simply be taking my money for no reason. I like that. Anyway, she's an '02 3.0 Sport with automatic trans. I've done, plugs, coils, seals, serp belt and pulleys. I'm off to replace the tensioner and belt for my water pump, as that was replaced in an emergency 2 weeks ago.

Mine's down right now with a burnt-up T case. I bought this car at 49K and ran to 75K. Poof. I knew it was going to throw in the towel eventually because when I serviced the case a few weeks after purchase, it was just about dry. Had a leaking prop shaft seal. I bought a low mileage T case (31K) and new external seals. I've got a 'shade tree' type friend that will change the case in exchange for a JDM turbo Nissan engine I've got in the garage. I should be back on the road in a few weeks. Meanwhile I'm stylin' in a beater 1987 Nissan Sentra! Hey, it gets better mileage than the cat!
