Transmission issues
I recently bought a 2002 Jaguar x-type at a very low price because it has transmission problems. I'm looking for some experience so I do not waste time and work messing with stuff that is not going to fix my issue. The most important question is, should I just replace it with a used transmission. The guy I bought the car from said it was "slipping" but I disagree. When I put the shifter in reverse it will move for about 2 or 3 seconds and then it feels as if it shifts back into park. The car stops mechanically and immediately. When the shifter is in drive the car has great power on takeoff and shifts into second but that's where it ends. Any attempt to accelerate/shift beyond second results in abrupt loss of power connection. The engine revs and nothing else happens. It feels like the transmission just disconnects. I get the Gearbox message on dash. I read the codes and they are as follows: P0430 Catalyst system below threshold bank 2, P1638 No DTC definition found, P0733 Gear 3 incorrect ratio, P0734 Gear 4 incorrect ratio, B1155 No DTC definition found and P111 No DTC definition found. I checked the fluid and it had plenty although it is rather discolored. I checked the TCM and I can find no apparent damage or water intrusion to the board or the connector. I have tested the shift solenoids with a multimeter and they were all three close to 18 ohms where they should be. Any help on the issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

All I can say is what I would do. I'd swap in a good used transmission. Apparently, you can get the tranny out and change it without removing the engine. You have a car with lots of unknowns that I suppose you got at a reasonable price. That leaves you room to make some improvements and still not be upside down.
