Default Transmission Removal & Replacement Cost

I did a search, but couldn't find very much in the way of recent and relevant information. My 2005 X-type Sport has the original manual transmission with 155,000 miles on it which I'm assume is original. The gearbox has a loud whine, a questionable third gear syncro and it's hard shifting into first and second gear. I've changed the fluid resulting in a mild improvement. I just found and purchased a used transmission with 67,000 miles on it that came with a 90-day warranty and I want to swap out the transmissions, install a new clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder and possibly a Dual Mass flywheel if needed. I have the knowledge and experience to do the job, but have no lift and a 79 year-old body so I'll have to have a shop do the work. Can anyone give me an idea of what the labor might cost (I'm providing the parts)? While I know that putting that kind of money into a 15 year-old car is evidence or senility and/or insanity (as if already owning an XK8 and an X-type Estate Wagon isn't enough), the fact is that the car is in very good overall condition and runs great (besides, i really enjoy driving it!).

Any suggestions (and possible encouragement) would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess 12 to 15 hours labor.
When the X400 was introduced, we were told to drop the entire powertrain/subframe onto a special lift table provided by Jaguar.

I always thought it was a waste of time so when I had to remove a gearbox I would simply remove the subframe and 'tilt' the gearbox and engine on an angle with the engine suspended with a cross-brace hanger.

Remove the gearbox like a normal front wheel drive car and install in reverse order.
About a year later Jaguar issued a TSB revising the replacement procedure to the one that I just described.
I guess nobody actually used the stupid table and dropped the engine/trans/subframe as a unit that we were told was the proper way?

The transfer case does add a layer of complexity. Regular FWD cars just have 2 CV axles instead of the transfer case AND a propshaft.
Any shop that has done a 'clutch-job' on a VW or Honda can do what you want done.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you happen to have a digital copy of that TSB? If I have a shop use regularly to the work, I usually provide them with any helpful paperwork that's available. I was told that the amount of time to do the job is 15-1/2 hours which tallies with your estimate and probably run around $ 1,500. With parts, depending whether of not it needs a new dual-mass flywheel, that's in the $ 2,000 range. Probably more than the car is worth, but hey, never let logic and maturity get in the way of a frivolous car project!

The TSB is for the JATCO auto-box recall but the basic principal is the same. (basically advised leaving the engine in place)
