Trouble code P0171 & P0174
Hello!
I have a 2003 Jaguar X-Type 2.5, was very excited when I bought it last 4th of July it only had 74k miles bought it from a Acura dealership. I use the metro a lot so I rarely drive it but this past December with 76k miles on it I decided to take it for a drive to work in the winter storm and the Check Engine light came on. Also, I got a Cruise Not Available message across my dashboard. I noticed that when I try to accelerate it stalls like I am stuck in 1st or 2nd gear. I decided to take it to AutoZone to have the codes scan and it came back with codes P0171 and P0174. Call the Acura Dealership and they said they couldn’t fix the car because it’s a Jaguar, I called a Jaguar and from them its sounds like it’s going to cost me a lot of money. Can someone please help me as to what the problem could be?

Those codes mean that the engine is running lean on both banks of cylinders. A common cause of this is a vacuum leak. I had that, and solved it by changing the IMT o-rings, PCV hose, and brake booster hose. The only one of these parts that is somewhat expensive is the brake booster hose, which is around $100; the others are quite cheap. There are other possible causes, but these are common. I never did figure out which was the culprit in my case, I just changed them all and the problem went away. It took me less than an hour to do the job, and I am slow!

I got these 2 codes too for a year and couldn't fix it until I found the problem shown on the picture. the leaking part of the brake booster hose was on the back side. the whole brake booster line looks so new that I neglected any possible defect of it before. Then I sealed it with 60 second epory glue and high temp tape. now it works well and those 2 codes are gone.

Thank you all for suggestions! I think I will just replace all three things (IMT O-rings, PCV Hose & Brake Booster) and see what happens. Also, this weekend I noticed that I filled my tank up to a ½ tank and drove about 100 miles and I swear to God my gas hand is on the red for empty, would this also be a cause because of the three things listed?

The bottom will not come out all the way, and that's ok. All you need to do is to cut the old yellow ring off. Then, gently stretch the new green ring around. It will stretch a little, just be careful and you'll be fine. I have done this, actually many of us on this forum have done this.
