Trunk Latch Issue

Two days ago, my trunk (boot) latch stopped working manually. It still works normally with the keyfob remote.
But if I just push on the release button - nothing happens. No click, no noise, nothing. The release button no longer actuates the release mechanism.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin: Some suggestions:
1) Install astromorg's clever manual release so you can always open the trunk. Jaguar's engineers did not provide a back-up, so if your key fob stops working, accessing the trunk thru the back seat is a real pita: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-only-107951/
2) While the trunk latch is apart to install astromorg's manual release, test the push button switch with a multimeter. Unplug the electrical connector (blue / purple wire is power, black wire is ground), and test the resistance across the switch. It should drop from infinite to nearly zero each time you press the switch.
3) If the switch is not working, send a PM to Dr dome, a forum member who parts out X-Types. Or buy one on eBay, like this: 2002 2007 Jaguar x Type Rear Trunk Lid Release Switch Button | eBay

Kevin, from the sounds of things, your pushbutton on the trunk is toast. The other thing that I would say to do just to make sure is to unlock the vehicle and open a door and then attempt the trunk. If it is still not working, then this would lead back to a bad button.
One check I would do is once you get to the button, pull it out of the trunk and then reconnect the electrical plug to the switch. You can then take a paperclip or some small gauge solid core wire and slide it between the two wires going to the switch. The trunk switch should attempt to "unlock the trunk". This will confirm that it is the switch beyond a shadow of a doubt. If it still doesn't work, then I would use a multimeter to see if you have 12 VDC across the switch when you are not pressing it. As long as you are not seeing anything under 1.000 VDC then all should be good. If you are seeing under 1.000 VDC, then you have either bad wiring to the button or a bad GEM module. This is where going to the GEM and doing the jumper test again will rule out a wiring issue (if you reach this state, let me know and I will tell you what to do).
