Twin Turboing a X-type 3.0 or 2.5?
Well first off has anyone twin turboed their X-type? Desnt anyone know how much HP you can get out of each engine? What other upgrades would i have to do since since the major jump in HP? I think i would have to do somthing with the transfer case and maybe the drive line...? Any help on anything to do with Twin Turboing a X-type..\
Thanks

I want to see you do this. We are all pretty frightened of the trans and AWD system, but it's all Jatco stuff shared by Volkswagens. People get 4Motion VWs to eclipse 400 bhp a lot. These cars are so dirt cheap now, you could buy a wrecked one for parts for a grand or less - then if you break something it won't hurt so much.

I wouldn't do it except on an auto. The temptation to dump the clutch would be too great and the TC would be all over the road with 300+ all wheel HP.

Exexpat has pretty much knocked it on the head, Any car can have anything upgraded and cars onboard computer can be told to do anything, thing is getting the it balanced to handle your mods, ford and vauxhall's are cheap as chips and blowing one isnt a real big issue ( oh well that was a bit over done get another one and try it again) but with a Jag the cost of a over zealous mod can prove way too expensive, but on the up side Jag although use shared parts, Jag do work thier magic on them to improve the original anyway because people expect things to be ,,, well Jag reliable.
Personally i aint got the ***** to do it but good luck if you go for it.

I'm going off of memory here, but it seems to me that the 2.5L motor has a compression ratio of 11:1 where the 3.0L motor has a compression ratio of 10.5:1. While this is almost the same, when you start forcing air into the engine, this can be a world of a difference. Most turbos need a compression ratio of around 8.5:1 to 9.0:1. Going higher than this can lead to excessive knocking/pre-detonation unless ultra high octane gas is used (115 octane for example).
The motor can be made to handle a lot more power with minimal modification. Trick is getting the transfer case to hold that power. So, unless you find a way to put a different transfer case into the car or can upgrade the case of the transfer case to make it flex less, you are going to have a problem putting that power down to the road without big bucks each time you do it.

Elite & Performance Jags in the UK supercharged a 3.0L X-Type a few years ago, have a look here http://www.eapj.com/X-Rated_Master%20Template%20lr.pdf
It came up in discussions on the UK forum recently, turns out the owner put the car into a tree, total loss...some bits were sold off, but no idea what happened to the engine...

Yeah it was something special! One of the guys on the UK forum got the interior out of that car & put it in his! He didn't know where it came from until a couple of weeks ago...
Are you sure? I did some digging & found that the AWD system was made by a company called Visteon. Original Press Releases HERE and specific mention of the TC HERE
It seems that the original company is/was called Visteon, but another separate company called Automotive Components Holdings was established where smaller less profitable divisions were spun-off & then sold-off. Can't be sure but the differentials business either went to Neapco or Linamar. Details of the break up of the company can be found in Wikipedia.
I'm interested to know who actually made the rear differential!
I'm also confused by that Visteon press release which mentions the front differential. Another article HERE states that the 5-speed manual "Basically is Mondeo’s MTX-75 with some modifications" and that box is a complete transaxle. It seems the Jag box is called the MTX-75-X? The MTX-75 is built by the Ford/Getrag JV in Germany according to this statement from Ford. It also makes sense given the MTX-75 is used in the Mondeo...
Any ideas?
The transfer box is Ford's own design, done by Delphi.

You can try and import a turbo kit made for the Ford Mondeo.. Plenty of companies in the UK make bolt on kits. Would take some modification to fit, but it wouldn't be impossible. I've even seen a few supercharger kits for the 2.5 and 3.0. Worth the price? Probably not.
The way I always look at modifying cars these days is a dollar per horsepower ratio. For example, if you spend about $8000 to add a turbo with supporting mods onto your X Type (and you will easily with all the custom work involved)- let's say you end up making an additional 100hp at the crank. Basically for every 1 horsepower you gain, you're spending $800 bucks.
By contrast- say you've got a 350Z and you add a Greddy twin turbo kit. You'll make an additional 250 horses at the crank for around $6000 bucks. $24 for every 1 horsepower. Now tell me if you still think its worth going out and trying to turbocharge your X Type.

It seems now that the TC & rear diff is no longer available to buy as a new spare part from Jag. This is a problem, but also an opportunity...

I doubt a twin turbo setup would fit on an awd variant - there's simply not enough room. A single turbo might be able to fit but that's still an inordinate amount of fabrication. I've been contemplating a supercharger setup as I think it might be a little easier to do. The Rotrex units are small and might be able to be made to fit easier than a single turbo.
As far as which size engine to go with - there's no replacement for displacement so my answer will always be the 3L.
Also the transfer case will definitely need to be upgraded - and currently there aren't any on the market that I can find. So if I were serious about adding power to my X-Type (and I am) you're looking at probably a $10k to $15k install for a quality job that also addresses the vehicle's weak points.

twin turbos suck ...to much heat under the hood one sigle t70 would do you for 400 plus
but your drivetrain will be all over the highway
this is simply a cruising car
we all want more power but its not realistic
if you can transplant an xkr with drivetrain you may have hope
but then you need money and a specialist

I know everyone has their own opinion of how much power they need, but I agree with the above. For the money it would require to double the stock horsepower in this car you could easily purchase a second vehicle that is making that same power in stock form.
Pick up any LSx v8 powered car and do a head/cam swap and you are over 400 rwhp all day long.
But saying that, you can't spend too much money on something that you love :-)
