Upgrade steering wheel
I have a 2003 x Type and it has the usual curling problem on the steering wheel center. I need help to know if it is possible to upgrade and install the latest model after 2004 without any changes. will it be just plug and play ? mine has just sound controls on the left side.

There is nothing wrong with the airbag as I know. Just looks ugly + a "facelift" steering wheel feels a bit better. The control buttons are located in a more convenient zone + the rim is thicker...but looks ugly as well. LOL
I like this one
But quite unsure whether or not it will fit the X without problems. Huh. Maybe anyone knows the answer?

Judging solely from these pictures, the physical mount seems to be the same, so the newer style steering "should" mount. However, the electrical connections probably are not the same. You would need to dig up the electrical schematics for the pre 2004.5 and compare them with the post 2004.5 schematics (available in the stickies). If you find out the connections are 1-1, which I highly doubt considering old has 8 functions vs 10 functions on new, good chance the connectors are the same. If not, you can then make your own custom harness, enabling you to just get the main features to work (airbag, horn, cruise, volume up/down and seek).
I don't have to tell you that messing with anything related to the airbag is scary dangerous and could cause injury or worse.
Nope and nope, different mounts on each.

It all depends on how you look at them:
I somehow like the button placing more on the pre-facelift than post, though.
- Radio channel/CD track +/-
- Jaguar Voice/radio mute
- Audio Mode
- Volume +/-
- Cruise control on/off
- Cruise control cancel
- Cruise control resume
- Cruise control +/-

It's the same when you count adjustable ways on your power seats .
Can you count the functions on "new" wheels?
P.S. I don't have a cruise on/off button on the cruise switch. It turns on by the "+" button and turned off by the "cancel" button. Huh

I just found a pic that shows the seek and cruise on/off buttons on the side, didn't see those before. Your only option is to get your hands on the old schematics and check.
Just for reference, the new wheel has the following functions:
1. Volume Up
2. Volume Down
3. Seek Up
4. Seek Down
5. Start Voice Session/Mute
6. Source
7. Cruise Up
8. Cruise Down
9. Cruise Resume
10. Cruise Cancel
Old Wheel:
1. Cruise Resume
2. Cruise Up
3. Cruise Down
4. Cancel
5. Cruise On
6. Cruise Off
7. Start Voice Session
8. Volume Up
9. Volume Down
10. Select
11. Seek Up
12. Seek Down
I'm going on a limb and assuming the "Source" on the new has the same functionality as the "Select" on the old.

You can buy it separately. Your options are dealer ($$$$), eBay, or local junk yard.
X-Type Parts also stocks them. Good service, even from across the ocean.

I do not have the "Cruise On/off" buttons. So, as I mentioned - I have 10 function buttons. )
Cheers
