Upgraded (external) microphone

Upgraded (external) microphone
Does the "new" microphone plug into the same connecter inside the overhead console that the "old" internal mic did?
What style of connector does it use; for example, could I wire a different electret mic into the existing system rather than paying the ludicrous amount of money that they want for the factory external mic?

Thanks...that looks like the right connector.
Looks like the "old" mic looks like a little "stick", simply an electret condensor module literally mounted on the plug base for the socket, so I guess "stealing" the socket from an old mic won't do the trick. The mic element plugs into the center of the overhead, where the small opening are. The two circles that LOOK like microphones are actually pressure sensors. They go through an electronic gate (NAND) and on to the security module...looks like they are the entry detectors for the alarm. (If someone opens a door, the pressure between the two sensors becomes different and sends a (1) signal to the alarm which triggers it. Great idea, actually...it will prevent most false alarms from cars going by!
It does look like the factory mic could be replaced with just about any decent electret.

I managed to get my hands on a trashed external microphone here...the reason that they sound so good and cost so much is that the element inside is pretty much the same as an AKG CK55 lavalier microphone (near broadcast quality!)...and it IS a real AKG element.
Unfortunately, this one is done for, and is already missing the connector. I can hard-wire a 3.5mm TRS into the console, and use a similar element but for a few more dollars, I can get a real one, and simply plug it into the console. Not sure which way to go.
