Greetings everyone!
The upper radiator hose of my x-type 2003 3.0 L is leaking. Now the mechanic to took to said that when he removes the hose the plastic part that connects to the radiator could brake off then I will need to replace the radiator. What?
I am not working at the moment and I am freaking out to say the least. Is that true? A friend thinks I just need to replace the hose, can't know for sure until someone takes a good look at it and tries to take the hose, but I just want to make sure that this mechanic is not trying to give me the runaround.
Thanks for any help I can get on this.

Well actually, I broke one myself. So it is quite possible. I broke off the smaller fitting next to the upper radiator hose. I also damaged the plastic tube on the engine side of the upper hose although I could have reused it if I had to. That plastic was very brittle it seems to me.
The hoses can sometimes bond onto the plastic fittings pretty aggressively and you have to be careful separating the hoses. Replacing the radiator is pretty involved, too. It will cost a good bit in labor alone, and the radiator is expensive anyway.
