What are the best non-hid replacement halogen headlight bulbs for our vehicles?

emery, a lot of people like the Sylvania Silverstars. They are supposed to be some of the brightest halogen bulbs out there.
One pitfall that I will tell you to avoid is going with the higher wattage bulbs. You should be going after 55W bulbs. As it is, people have problems with the bulb base melting. Going with a higher wattage bulb is only going to make this more of a problem.

From a pure science and lumen rating standpoint, these are the best non-HID 9006 bulbs (2100 lumens):

HIRs would be second (1700 lumens):

Factory bulbs are approximately 1000 lumens and 35w HIDs are around 3000 lumens. The higher you go up the kelvin scale, the lower the lumens become, for example, the childlike 10000-12000k (purple) 35w HID bulbs produce around 2000 lumens, or about what the best halogen produces.

Emery, if you are upgrading your lights I would highly recommend doing an HID swap for your fog lights especially if you live in an area that snows quite a bit. I replaced mine and absolutely love them! they really cut right under the precipitation and get right to the road. Its your choice in the end, but it really changed my winter driving phenomenally.

If you plan to go with the Silverstars, be sure to order the Osram version of the lamp and not the Sylvania version. The Osram (European) version of the Silverstar is a much brighter white version than the blue tinted U.S. Sylvania version. Osram by the way controls the Sylvania naming rights in the U.S. The Osram version's H1 product number is: 64150SVS. Bought mine on eBay, though also available at other retailers like Amazon.
