What brake pads to use and do I Rreally have to use new caliper bolts?
Hi. Im going to be putting on ceramic pads and filling the brake lines with new fluid, rotate tires and probably even paint calipers red (ricey, I know).
Anyways, what ceramic pads should I go for? I cant find any size specs for the xtype...
And like I asked in another post, do I really need super dot 4 or can I use valvoline's new synthetic brake fluid?
Also, JTIS manual says put in new caliper bolts after every time you take the calipers off, which I would be doing to paint them. True? Or can I use the same bolts?

I reused my bolts when I installed the Red Stuff ceramic pads I kinda go against the flow and I put never seize on the bolts and torque them less than recomended.
a lubricated thread needs less torque than a dry one for the same clamping load.
... I painted my calipers black, the red pads were enough for me.

I will be installing red stuff pads from EBC hopefully along with grooved / dimpled rotors at the same time.
I'll be painting the calipers too ( probably silver c/w Jaguar decals applied) as red would be too boy racerish for me.
As for re using the existing caliper bolts unsure, but racer or Buck will know.

Jim you have been on this forum too long...FFS they are discs not rotors.Everyone in the UK knows this
The JTIS recommends you replace these but I just refitted them as they seemed OK.If you decide to replace them get them from the dealer before you start the work. They only cost a few quid.

unless you are racing any brand new stuff that meets the required dot number is fine...
I like the Blue ATE stuff because you can see when new stuff reached the bleeder. Next brake fluid change go back to clear.. then blue etc... takes a lotof guess work out of the procedure.

But my question is what DOT are we following? The JTIS says Super Dot 4... While the cap on the brake resovior says like "DOT 3, DOT 4, SUPER DOT4".
Lets say it is Super Dot 4... Does the same go for synthetics? I ask because Valvoline's Synpower Brake Fluid is synthetic, and only describes itself as "exceeding DOT 3 and DOT 4 specs". Would it work for the x-type?
Just trying to make the right choice...

Don't know about reusing caliper bolts - have reused the ones on several domestic cars, but I don't know if Jaguar bolts can suffer from metal fatigue. Bottom line if the service maual says change 'em probably best to do it. Regarding the fluid. Valvoline synthetic has wet and dry boiling points 40 degrees lower than Super dot 4. A number of European car mfg. specify super 4 including BMW, Jag, Volvo, Porsche, so consider that. If you tend to use the brakes to slow down from "speed", then I wouldn't settle for less than super 4. It's about twice the price of Valvoline synthetic, but consider it insurance against fading or brake loss.
