Default what causes this?

Hi, we just got a 2007 xtype 3.0. Forgive me if i use improper terminology here, but the black "molding", the "weather stripping" - like stuff around the windows, on both sides of the car, in the back window area, is all buckled up and puckery in one spot as shown in the photo that i attached. Has anyone seen this before? The person we bought it from wasn't very helpful. It's in the exact same spot on each side of the car. Thank you, marlene

lilyrosemary, I've moved your post from the forum advice/feedback section (as that is for issues with the forum itself) to the X-Type section where forum members with the same model as you can better assist.

As this is your first post, please take a moment to stop by the New Member section and post an intro. In turn, you will receive a warm welcome and some useful tips on navigating the forum

That's awfully interesting...... I don't have an answer, but it almost looks like it's a repair like someone cut the molding to get to the pillar. Maybe the small back windows were replaced on both sides? Looks like patchwork.

Rosemary, first off, welcome to the Forums. I think you are going to like here. We like to be friendly and helpful. As for your problem, I am betting that what happened was the previous owner tried to use something like mineral spirits or some other harsh cleaner and used a little too much and that got on the rubber and caused it to swell. Unfortunately, based on what I am seeing, the only fix is to get new rubber molding (window weather seal is the proper term). It is pretty straight forward to remove as I recall (just pressed into place). It sounds like to me that the person made a mistake trying to clean the car up and now just wants to get the car gone.

I had that happen on my 2003 X-Type. The weather seal is made from a spring metal core that is covered with rubber. The spring gives it it's strong grip. What happens is that water gets inside and the spring rusts. The rust causes the bubbling that you see. There is nothing that you can do, they must be replaced. Fortunately, they are not too expensive and the installation job is easy.

Pete.

Mine too. It was like this when I bought the car, but it doesn't seem to be getting any worse.
Left side rear door.
