Default Wheel Alignment

Finally got the car a wheel alignment last weekend at a local tire shop (recommended by a friend and shows good reviews). The service was great & looks like they have the right tool for the job.

What do I know, this is my first alignment because I never owned a car that pass over 80K miles before. Didn't need to get one.

The issue is that it still have the vibration and steering wheel play when going 60 to 70. They also noticed vibration at lower speed. Their investigation leads to a bad tire. The thing is I changed my wheels (rims) & had it balanced a year ago. That shop didn't say any concerns on the tires. They also mentioned the rear bearings need to be replaced because there is movement there. I want to replace all the bearings/hub anyway. Just because of the mileage & age of the car.

I wonder if they're saying this (tire problem) because they sell tires. Could it be something else. Hate to spend on the tires when it is something else.

Does anyone have experience with bad tires causing vibration? Thanks.

Did they balance your tires? Are any of your wheels out of round? The alloy wheels on X-Types can be bent and cracked pretty easily (ask me how I know). Try rotating the wheels and see if that make any difference in the vibrations.

Off topic but it's a very good idea to do a wheel alignment way more often than 80k miles. :/

They did not balance the tires. They suspect the tires are out of rounds & the wheels/rims are good. I did have the wheels rotated a year ago. Do I have to do this often?

I thought wheel alignment only need to happen when symptoms of steering wheel play & vibration happens. Or when you have high mileage. Does wheel alignment need to be part of the 60K miles maintenance? or something else?

i recently replaced my wheels and most vibration (which i had been trying to diagnose for some time) disappeared. So bent rims really are a possibility, also sounds like it could be a balance problem, if a balance weight falls off then that could be the cause

Ive seen a total of 3 jaguars that didnt need anything reset on a alignment in 15 yrs........yeah just 3
vibration and play=alignment, no worn components, tires/wheels.
Roadforce needs to be checked when balanced. You can balance an egg, but how would that ride down the road
a rim can even be bent, but not be an issue on road force variance, so it pays to check.
Alignment, can be a shimmy, drift, steering wheel off center, and irregular tire wear(most noteably inner tread block wear more than outer)
