Why the obvious prejudice jag has against making another awd vehicle?
Today I received a lovely envelope in the mail from jaguar introducing their new line of 2012 models, all rwd.
Because I live in the northeast of the U.S. I really can't buy a rwd vehicle. If I want a newer jag than my 05 I'd be stuck with an 08. Not that this would be a bad thing of course.
When my jag someday dies I would prefer to stay with the brand. Does jag ever plan on reintroducing another awd in their line?

Seriously, jaguar is not as big as bmw or benz. Tata is not gonna build a limited production vehicle as easily as their competition. They want bang for the buck and r.o.i.(return on investment) ive heard nothing on awd. But i have heard that 2 concept cars are gonna be built. Ive thought for along time jaguar should have an suv. But talking to people alittle higher in jaguar the response has always been we have land rover to fill that niche. I think thats another contributing reason government motors went under. They spread themselves to thin and are too diluted. Do you really need buick, gmc, chevy, cadillac, olds, saturn, hummer pontiac etc..... Theyre alot of just rebadged cars/trucks. They all take up alot of resources, and $$$ to promote, engineer, produce etc.... The best businesses are lean businesses that can change direction and get through tough times from limited overhead and not depend on bailouts....its not always a wise move to think you have to compete with your competition head to head......

I think one of the reasons is becuase the only awd vehicle they made (x type) couldn't even handle the power of a 3 liter v6. Honestly, I think that they have decided that all their vehicles need performance over handling in inclimate weather. Jaguar has always been 2wd except for the xtype which had all types of problems and couldn't really have true jaguar performance. That's just my 2 cents

Really, when you think about it coming out with the X as being AWD was probably a mistake. It was supposed to be an entry level Jag built to a price point. With Jaguars always being rear wheel drive known for luxury and performance having the added weight and complexity of AWD hurt performance and added cost. That extra cost maybe could have been spent on additional performance Had they come out with only rear wheel drive models with better performance and established the model and kept developing it maybe the X would still be around. With all the teething problems of the early models (transmissions, transfer cases, rust) the reputation in the marketplace sealed the deal. Plus, at the time Jaguar was starting to run into financial difficulties and couldn't/wouldn't devote the resources needed to keep developing the car and soon sales started tanking and the rest is history. Such a shame on so many levels. On the other hand because of all that a lot of us were able to pick up a really nice reliable car that is a great all weather performer for a song. I've had mine for over three years now and still love it.
