Default Why is it so hard to sell our cars

Okay so I listed mine for 12
then for 10
then for 9
then for 8
and now for 6500 With a brand new tranny ( 4500), new cv joints, o2 sensor -700, upper rad hose and thermo - 600, and new tires - 600.
Like wtf man.

Any idea why. The dealship quoted my 8000 on trade ina nd the guy even told me i could get close to 11 for it.

Just curious.

Maybe everyone is waiting for it to go sub $2000. Seriously, how many buyers do you think there are for an X-Type? Don't forget, most people don't even realize they're affordable so they aren't even looking for a Jag. Some might even see the price so low and wonder what's wrong with it.

Patience Grasshopper. That's a lot of price reductions in a short period of time. What has it been a week or two? May take a few more weeks to sell it. As C5 says, there is a limited market. A lot of folks aren't looking to pay $10K for a 10 year old car. But that's because they aren't Jag owners. I wouldn't drop the price every few days. If you are really willing to take $6500 then trade it for $8000!!!!!

PS at $6500 you are about 3 grand under priced in our market (Alberta) and that could actually scare some folks off.

The market for these cars is primarily females and females tend to want a warranty. Simple.

It's a double-edged sword. I can afford to own one because a low mileage one-owner lease Jag has depreciated unbelievably. I actually own two - an S and an X wagon. Among my non-car friends, there's awe that I have 2 cars they perceive to be in the same category as Rolls and Bentley (even though a comparable new GM product would have cost more). Among my "car" friends, there is belief that I am completely insane to have paid any amount of money for what they perceive must be 24/7 expensive maintenance headaches that will someday soon strand me in the path of a tornado. Even among my "Jag friends" there's a belief that the wagon must have cost a fortune due to its rarity. (It did not.)
Meanwhile, I just drive them. No maintenance problems, good gas mileage great cars.
It's an image/perception problem for sellers, not a car problem.

I got maybe 6 emails/calls for it. Hmmm.

Never knw females were into jags.

Default Price out west

Don't know where you are located but on the west coast, unless your 2002 has well under 100k miles, that is about all they actually sell for out here. The new trans would be a plus to those who know the failure rate in these cars but most buyers don't know that. Best of luck.

It's cash flow. Most people I know only lease cars with zero down or finance. My wife and me are the only people I know who paid cash for our cars. You're competing with zero down and low monthly.

It's the mirror image of why people here crow about how affordable the car is when they bought it. Now, you are on the other side.

It is also a function of the size of the surrounding population, who by the way, just received their second credit card statement after Christmas.

People must think they are too expensive or too finicky (they're right! lol). I get looks from all kinds of people while driving the X-Type, even more than when I had the Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3. I can tell from their faces that they actually like the Jag, so I don't think looks are a factor.

Or maybe they like them, but just don't feel it's their style, who knows.

I know I sure wouldn't buy any used European cars if I didn't have my trusty Honda.

I had very little interest in my 2002, which was basically spotless and also had a new transmission and about 80k miles on the clock. I also went down to around $5500 and didn't get an offer. Ended up making a deal with a wholesaler who gave me a good price. I think he bought it for his wife.

Yea Im going to run it for a day and then quit. Im just going to trade in for my new vehicle.

Well I think its really stupid how such a great band was driven into the ground. Like come on. Ford was in the whole a few years ago and now they got some of the best vehcile around. I used to hate ford ( Im a chevy and sometimes dodge guy) but they managed to turn there selves around and produce nice vehicles.

Now I can't say that about gm but dodge and chysler are ona come back. Gm....still lagging abit.

Jaguar had the same oppurunity...but intead( i remember watching top gear complain about the xj220 and xjs) they sat around drinking tea after building one car...and they forgot the suspension in it.

Maybe if I change the listing to "Glorified for escort or contour " ill get more calls......just kidding people

If you can really get $8,000 for the car on trade, you'd probably want to jump on that. I was getting offers for $4,000 to $4,500 (US) on trade-in. Luckily I found this other guy because I almost did trade it in for a hill of beans, basically.

It's not limited to Jaguars or X Types. Last year we were trying to sell an impeccably maintained, low mileage 07 c280 4 matic in the DC area. The best deal we got was to trade it in for a new car.

Also, for what it's worth I've asked a sales guy at Rosenthal Jaguar (DC area) and he said that x types were their fastest selling used cars. Probably because their used cars can be had with the jag extended warranty. Just tracking their web site (which I do, since I want to upgrade at some point) does show that x types are being sold at prices comparable to 3 series cars of the same age....

The easiest car I sold was my 03 TL. Sold in a day at full retail KBB at the end of 2007. Probably because by then the new TL's looked horrendous. Plus mine was fully loaded and pristine...

this wins the funniest thread of the year award. Stu is fed up with the issues and is selling the car. He wonders why people arent lining up to but his Jaguar. I'm on the ground literally. Do you think it might be because people associate Jaguars with issues??? Come on I can't be the only one to see the irony here right?

nooo.... see here:

or maybe potential buyers have already been reading around here

But, what it boils down to is that it is a special interest vehicle with a limited market.

You're right of course. It's not like someone is thinking about buying a car and thinks Jaguar. I was looking for AWD and didn't even know they made an AWD car. But I bought it eyes wide open. I've owned tons of British Cars, all of them with some issue or other.
