Windshield Replacement Questions
Took a pretty major rock hit on the freeway yesterday. Windshield is chipped, and I've now got a 6" crack too. It's in driver's line of vision, so I'm pretty sure insurance is going to say it's a must replace.
Anyway, will the glass company have to use an OEM windshield? Also, I have auto-wipers. What are the chances that they will screw them up?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks and Happy Jaguaring....

i've changed it twice. the auto wipers sensor is between the central rear mirror and the glas. they need to put some jelly there for the installation to be perfect but it worked without it as well (the second replacement team explained it to me).
the second time i've chosen the windshied with defrosting as the car has the connectors, relay slot (relay from dealer 5 to 10 euro) and fuses. you only need to improvise a button for the command circuit of the relay... but maybe you have defrost from factory

kevin, take it to a glass shop and show them that the auto wipers work. That way, after the windshield is replaced, you can test it again and prove the functionality. Doing this, while a pain to initially get the car in, will garantee that if it doesn't work coming out, the shop is on the hook since they said they could replace the windshield (which this is part of this style windshield). This will give you a leg to stand on later should it not work. If you have too much grief, then you simply talk to the insurance company that the shop messed up the windshield, is not fixing it, at that point the shop gets taken off of the insurances list of recommended shops. Costs the shop money. that will get their attention.

I personally doubt that a regular shop has OEM windshields for the X-type. But there are plenty of other manufacturers who make aftermarket ones both with and without a spot for the rain sensor.
