Default wiper blades rest 3 inches above where they use to rest

A year or so ago, the nut that fastens the control arm on my 03' x-type came loose. I tightened it and it rests too high. I brought it to a jag dealer and he told me the I needed to replace the motor because he couldn't reprogram the software. Is this common? I don't believe any of them (from experience).

have you tried to take off the arm and put it back where it used to sit?

You mentioned control arm, so I'm hoping we aren't mixing up suspension and rain-control

If we really are just talking about the wipers, that dealer is scamming you, my friend. Remove the retaining nut and use a puller (the jag-specific one is mighty handy, though you can get away with a 3-point "claw" puller) to remove the wiper arm. You'll see that the post on which the wiper is pressed doesn't force the arm in any certain position. Just place the wiper where you would like it and press it back on with the nut. Easy stuff - it's just a PITA when you have to use a generic puller on it.

Should be pretty easy - let us know how you get on.

Take the nut off and then raise the wiper to the vertical position. You should then be able to gently work the wiper off the splines. But DO NOT let the wiper fall back or you will BREAK THE WINDSHIELD/SCREEN. Do the reverse to put it on.
