X-Type for 350 engine swap?!??

Hey Zman,
My question is why would you want to? The engines in our cars are amazing engines. And, if kept up with the correct lubes, don't really have a high failure rate. The main problem I see with our cars is that people will pay $10,000 for a car, then go to Wal-Mart for the oil change (or the cheapest place around). Then their cars engine will blow and the people will bad mouth the x-type. When in reality it wasn't the cars fault at all. (Specs call for 5-30w, full synthetic oil. I would recommend Royal Purple, or Amsoil oils…)
Now, if you're dead-set on changing the engine on your "x" to a 350, there would be a ton to change out (motor mounts, ECM, radiator, you'd have to come up with some sort of adapter for the transmission or change the transmission out with a different one, which would involve changing the TCM). I'm not saying that it would be impossible, but you can get a used engine for around $1,000, and a fully rebuilt engine for around $1,800. So why not just do that?

No. X-Type engine is transverse, all other Jags have their engines in longitudinal configuration.

Zman, to do the 350 swap into an X-TYpe, you would have to convert it over to 2wd and then do MAJOR!!!! structural upgrades. For what you would be putting into the car, you might as well get yourself say a 2005 Camaro, get an aftermarket body kit to convert it over to a Lamborginia and go from there. It would be easier and cheaper.
Don't forget to spend time with the ohana. I lived on Oahu for 3 years. Enjoyed my time out there. Met a lot of nice people in the Ford Truck Group that is there on the island. If you are familiar with that group, then you probably saw me as I was the one with the lift green expedition.

Aloha! Ya, braddah...im building some fords right now...idi turbo lifted f250 w/ sas and a f450 powerstroke.
---The reason for the swap is that the girl blew the motor. I'm a mechanic, i weld, fabricate, do it all pretty much. I actually have a 460 that I've been sitting on waiting to put it in something crazy for the drag strip.
A V8 american engine just sounds badass, cheap to build and reliable. To be honest, i think jaguar and duratec engines are garbage.
And the funny thing is a chevy 350 or 383 would smoke the v12 jag.
So for pretty much every reason on the table other than how easy...
But, that makes sense you guys, $2000 for a new motor and an easy install...sell it and find something fun to build...i know when you start gettting all crazy with the fabricating it doesnt always work out so good...and the hours just keep racking up going to nowhere.

Zman, i say put a duratec motor back in it and then run up to Schofield to get a project car from there (they do auctions every other week or so). Then you can get a car dor fairly cheap and then have a lot of fun with it. Just watch out for the RECON people. They wanted to give me a bunch of grief over the lift on my truck.

The LS is already rwd, and you can get them with the jag v8s, because its based on the Jag S-type, and is nothing like the X type. You could put a 350 in an s type much, much easier than in an X. it could probably be done in the X, but I'm sure you'd have to do some cutting and reshaping of the trans tunnel, that means cutting and welding. A lot of work, but with the S-type or an LS the trans tunnel is already built to have more than just a driveshaft and exhaust pipe going through it like our cars.
That LS is cool though. I've seen one with a supercharged cobra 4.6 and a t56 too. I seriously thought about getting an LS instead of the X-type because of that ha.

Why oh why did they have to go transverse with the engine?
Looking at that video posted by Carcster about the Lincoln LS made me jelly because it looks so much easier to access, well, everything! Accessing the back three cylinders near the firewall (not mention the stuff behind that) is a PITA compared to what's in the Lincoln.

It would be cool if someone made a supercharger or turbo kit for the x-types. Not that I could afford it, but it would be fun to turbocharge it if it were just a project car. Probably would have to custom make a manifold... oh yea and the ecu would probably need to be all custom if that is even possible.

Oh interesting... I will have to look in to that... I was thinking you know how the transfer cases are not good at low rpm torque? Well turbo would be good then because you have turbo lag so it wouldn't even kick in till like 4000 rpms, by then you would be doing like 60 already, so you'd mostly be in the higher speeds but I guess with cornering and stuff you would probably want to rebuild the case or something. What about the ecu's though? Aren't those specific to Jaguars? Wouldn't you need to change the fuel ratio's and stuff?

Surely everything is possible if you have a crapload of cash, but why would you do that when you can use that money on buying a significantly faster car instead? If the X-Type isn't quick enough for you, sell it and get an S-Type R or an XJR...
I've never seen a turborcharged V6 X-Type, only 3 supercharged, so it's presumable there are reasons beyond just the unsuitable compression ratios to not go with turbocharging. As I posted elsewhere:
