X-Type Airbag Suspension Project Thread

So I've ordered the airbag kit with 5-gallon polished stainless tank, struts, brackets, bags, digital controller and key fobs. I will track the installation over the next couple of weeks, so bear with me.
This is the look I'm going for:
![](http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/369/3541/38421770020_large.jpg)
...when parked. No, it won't be drivable like that.
It'll sit maybe 10mm lower than it does now for normal driving and every time the ignition is on (automatically). For bad driveways, I'll have a nose up setting and for when the in-laws fly in from Australia, I'll have a rear high setting for back seat passengers.
I don't care for three-wheel motion, fast up/down, or going higher than stock on the front or rear axles. I'll just use driving height, pancake and the occasional leveling or front spoiler saving adjustments.
Stay tuned. Next step will be pre-wiring and building out trunk shelving for amps and air kit...

You could probably snag a compressor for onboard air out of just about any Range Rover P38a laying about in a junkyard. Nice, tidy yet powerful unit, and you could take the engine bay case too for a clean install. The tank is mounted under the truck and is large and ugly, so you are definitely better off with the polished one you ordered.
Good luck, seeing your attention to detail on your other projects I expect this will turn out quite nice.

I purchased everything from airbagit.com. The parts in addition to the standard kit are all for quality measures:
- Stainless tank to prevent rust in the air lines/valves
- Air engine upgrade to ensure valve longevity
- Condensation filter to avoid water in lines/valves
And of course the gadget stuff I need to manage height:
- Smartride digital controller
- Key fob optional controller
Just bought the materials for rear shelving. It'll be a display behind lexan with a cover wall in matching trunkliner...

Update (without pics):
I keep thinking about this in terms of car stereo and now I am build the equivalent of an amp rack. The install will be against the rear seat in the trunk. I am using laminated particle board shelving boards from Rubbermaid in black oak. I prefer the subtle hint of wood grain on the black and the coloring is almost identical to the dark charcoal leather.
The "bag rack" is a shelf with two sides 14" tall and the base is 12x41.5. I had to notch out the sides to clear the cargo hooks at the rear sides of the trunk (fender wells) and will use those to secure the "bag rack" in place. An upper shelf 41x9 will have my 4 50x2 RMS stereo amps. I need to wait for the plug and play unit from airbagit.com to see how high my amp shelf needs to be before I screw everything together.
Once everything is wired up and working the next thing will be to create a facia board with lexan windows and lighting to look into the air components and stereo amps. Servicing of air components and amplifier settings will be done from the back seat and I will try to trim that out as well in case the back seats are folded down (at the one Jaguar show in Washington State per year). After that, I will create second facia board that hides everything and makes the trunk look stock and unaltered to the untrained eye.
I've effectively sacrificed 15" of the trunk depth, but it still has the spare tire and tools + will hold an oversized suitcase. It is still way bigger than my previous trunk in the C70 convertible - where the top consumed 50% of the space or more.
8 gauge wire has also been run from the battery and wow that is a PITA going into the firewall. Jaguar's firewall is so tight it could squeeze diamonds.
I'll take pics when I start assembling the rack. Until then, use your imagination
