also not to sound like a complete novice here but how do i turn on the fog lights. I when i took the car for a test drive i couldnt figure out how to turn them on to make sure all the lights were working properly. Do they just turn on once you turn the head lights on or do they have a seperate switch? If they have a switch can you please tell me where it is located thank you very much

 

pull on the switch that does the lights. 1 click does fronts, 2 front & rear

The X-Type is an awesome car, but not ideal for a daily driver/commuter car. I drive my little 1999 Honda Civic EX back & forth to work and it hasn't let me down yet, knock on wood. Its only been out a few times since I owned it for maintenance & tune ups.

I drove the X for a week to work, when the Civic was getting serviced and the gas mileage sucks in bumper to bumper traffic. I commuteabout an 1 hour & a half one-way to work and about the same coming home and I filled up the X's tankaround3 times compared to my 1 time a week w/ the Civic.

I know that there isnt any comparison with the Civic vs. the X, but the X is definitely not a daily driver. Any other experiences with commuting w/ the X-Type?

 

Gotti, you never said a truer word mate, all of the above is so true.
I drive my A6 3.0TDI as a daily driver for work and get both power n fuel economy at the same time. I've been driving diesels now for 16 years or so. They've come a long way Gotti.
The 3.0 TDI will do 155mph and 0-60 in around 7.5 secs..... all this while still returning around 45 mpg on highway and 40mpg combined.
I've driven the X as a daily driver for a very short time.....way too expensive to run returning around 25 mpg or so!!!
I reckon you could use the new 2.2d X type as a daily driver no probs.........mod the exhaust n grills etc, you still have the look of the gorgeous X, fit a tuning mod and I'll bet that it can give any 3.0 X a run for its moneywhile still returning 45 mpg or more
Even better for you guys over there with fuel so cheap!

Gotti..........check those figures out bro and see the relatively small difference in performance and top speed, yet huge differences in fuel economy.
Having had a 1.9tid diesel with 150bhp factory tuned to 176bhp with the torque going up as well, I know just how fast these babies can be, and you still have amazing fuel economy at the same time.
I reckon that would be tuned to around 190bhp with the torque increasing exponentially too, probably to around the 470nm mark I'd bet. I swear it would leave the 3.0 in its wake 0-60 and top end too.....plus the added benefit of fuel economy

Nice Jim! That's a huge difference in fuel ecomony! I'm drooling at the fact that I could keep the look of the X-Type and not break the bank on gas in the process!

I wonder if I could do an engine swap?!?!? Maybe not, but it sure does make you wonder!

 

i dunno why they dont get the diesels over here, im sure they wud have a lot of sales as people are starting to worry bout gas prices here

 

Sorry guys, I was in a rush so the post was terrible for comparisons, I've since changed it so its much easier to see the difference at a glance.
04 / Gotti.......The good news is not just in the fuel economy stakes though guys. You're sorta missing the other main points.
There's very little difference ( if any) in the power / speed areas too.....generally speaking, you're always gonna have more torque and the top speed....WOW.
My Audi at 125 or more in sixth and it PULLS like you wouldn't believe.
Don't just take my word for it.....check it out!
The only thing you then need to do, is look at importing a L/h/d version, do 2-3 mods and you got yourself a fast car that runs for next to nothing and looks just as good!
