X Type Crankshaft and Camshaft Sensors OEM or Aftermarket?
Hi all,
Just tracking an occasional hot start stalling/hunting idle issue. Happens about 2 times a week when I turn the key, stalls, 2nd turn of the key I need to pump the accelerator a bit as it hunts up and down and can usually stop it stalling and once moving no problem. Always after I've already used the car for the day when it happens. Changed every top end seal and vacuum pipe I can find and asked for some further thoughts and one thing that came up was said sensors. Looked them up and other symptoms other than the hot stall issue is a little slow/hesitation on accelerating (which I also have) and poor MPG (also a feature of my car). No EML's but I'm one of those people who see my 3.0 auto estate as a rolling restoration and replacing parts bit by bit on a 20yr old car even if it doesn't solve the immediate problem doesn't trouble me as at that age it may not be long before it goes anyway!
So back to the question, OEM sensors are circa £120 a piece and with 3 to buy for £360 it's definitely enough to make one stop and think! I've heard all the stories about Lambda after market sensors causing problems (subsequently went OEM Denso for recent replacement of upstream sensors) but what about crankshaft and camshaft sensors? Ashwood Jaguar (who I trust) are doing each one for under £20, manufacturer called Autotech. Ebay has similar offerings, also seen Delphi for camshaft sensors. Any direct experience of aftermarket sensors that have worked fine or is this like the lambda sensors, OEM or bust?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
