X-Type discontinued?
My X-Type has 128K miles so I thought that I would stop by the dealer
to see what the new ones are like. I did not see any and they are
apparently discontinued. Why would they do that, they seemed a
very popular model? I particurlarly liked the AWD since we get a
lot of snow here.
If this is old news and has already been discussed I appologize for
being so late on the news.

Hello Jag4me,
has your jag been reliable for the 128k for the most part?
Did you change the fluids on your transfer case, transmission oil, differentials, torque convertor, etc?
just curious since I have about 80,000 miles and I hope it can get over 100k with no problems.
Thanks!

RE: X-Type discontinued?
I am satisfied with the car. It is my wife's car so I don't drive it as much as her.
I am, however, responsible for the maintenance. ;-)
At about 60K miles I noticed a very slight whine coming from the rear differential.
My wife did not notice it. I mentioned it in passing to the Jag service
manager and he said that he would schedule me for a replacement under warranty.
The new differential has been fine since. The problem must have been more
serious than just normal wear. That was the most serious problem that we
have had.
It is a standard and we are still on the original clutch! I have done a few
brake jobs.
For major service intervals I take it to the dealer. For the regular oil changes
I take to to a local shop. The dealer is 50 miles away.
As far as the electronics, it has been pretty good. The most complex item,
the GPS navigation system, continues to work fine. The automatic dimming
rear-view mirror stopped working after the warranty expired. It is too expensive
to replace so I don't worry about it.

RE: X-Type discontinued?
I have 80K on mine...I wanted to change the Transfer Case & Differential oil as maintenance. A local Jag tech told me not to change it since its sealed for life and that he has seen people change it and the parts fail a year or two after.....somehow I feel this is hard to believe. At 80K i feel the oil already served its purpose and should be replaced because that is the life of parts being lubricated. Thats just common sense to me...but other Techs here could say otherwise or notsince they are the Pros.

RE: X-Type discontinued?
I agree with your X2 Jag, I would feel more comfortable replacing the fluids but my local jaguar techs said they don't recommend touching those parts. They told me that they don't recommend opening those parts because it can screw up the internal parts. They said they will not replacetorque convertor or the transfer case oil.
I am confused as well!

RE: X-Type discontinued?
It's really a shame your dealers are reluctant to help you out..Myself and several members here have changed out our TC and Differential lube oils..and have found the original stuff to be black sludgy and low or absent in correct levels..and by changing them, we are now certain of correct levels and a fresh batch of lube oil....so it pays to do it in my book...That "filled for life" BS, is for the birds IMO.

RE: X-Type discontinued?
Yeah guys....it doesn't chime right to me. Its not like if the internal parts of the TC or Differential come in contact with Oxygen that it will mess them up. Like Dennis said...id rather be certain of fresh lubricating oil to protect my parts.I just might do it myself if there are not any special tools needed to drain and refill....I think one of the guys posted up a DIY on this a while back.
