lol thanks.......Im only upset because ford CAN do alot better and their outer US cars/market reflect that. Somehow here in the US we get the shovelware. everytime you think something cool is coming down the pipeline they ruin it. Im really amazed that they went with the "bold moves" campaign, and out of that came the 500 and another average focus. They have absolutely nothing to offer young people that want a nice coupe .i.e. RSX, Civic si, Cobalt SS. everything they do looks cheap and overdone, with even worse craftsmanship.

ORIGINAL: CougarBlack

I agree the duratec is great(have a 3.0 cougar) the only problem with ford is they didnt design the engine so they did a terrible job intergrating it into their cars, so they screwed up time and time again. Everything outside of the engines is crap. Tranny is a perfect example. and also the duratec is waaaay underpowered for the size it is. In the 90's it was ok to get 190 out of a V6 now thats just rediculous, many 4cyl get that type of power now. As a matter of fact the SVT contour had 200 out of is 2.5 non VVT engine in 98. and 225 for a 3.0V6 24 Dohc with VVT is even more rediculous. most ford efforts outside of its trucks are halfed a**ed. Oh and the mustang, but then again thats still running on old technology. Gm is on a serious come-up......ford though they were doing bad before. They should had SVT do an R version of the x-type. oh but wait that'll never happen because they got rid of them. /rant

I'm going to hit many points in this post, so bare with me.

1.) Ford is fine with me. If I can obtain Motorcraft parts for this platform for a fraction of the cost, that's a-okay with me.

2.) The quote, couple things:

-In your a previous post you said you had SVT parts and a 3L? What kind of swap did you do?

-I thought the 3L was done by Ford. The 2.5L definitely was NOT.

-I thought the CDW27 was a great platform. It worked overseas, and flopped here b/c of reliability issues and bad marketing.

-When the engine was tuned and tweaked by Ford it was rated at 170 for the 2.5 and 200 for the 3.0 (In terms of SVT, 195 for the EO and 200 for the E1 thanks to extrude hone), not sure where you're getting your numbers from. Again, you were discussing the 90's, so I'm sticking with the cdw27 and Taurus/Sable/Escape.

-Not to soon like a jerk, but you're like every car enthusiast I've met, myself including. We often forget, power doesn't make any manufactuer's bread and butter. We're a very small drop in the bucket compared to what the everyday regular Joe is looking for, and with gas prices the way they are, it's definitely not power.

Default RE: x-type engine air filter

i took my filter into the auto parts store and they matched it up. I told them it was a ford.. and it was dirt cheap....
K&N is good, but studies have found poorer results in particulate filtration compared to your standard paper filters. Personally, I wouldn't risk it in a Jag.

Pardon my misunderstanding, but are you guys upgrading from a flat to conical filter, or is the OEM filter conical to begin with? I ask b/c you guys talked about cleaning, I didn't think it was possible to clean a flat filter.

Yeah, make sure to purchase the AEROSOL recharging kit, as the other one sucks.

Bojangles, they probably just found a Motorcraft filter. Either that or some other car uses the same filter and third parties produce it too, Wix, Fram, etc. Pull up the part # on the box + manufacturer if you can though. I want to change out my mom's filter soon.

Default RE: x-type engine air filter

3l is from the 03taurus/sable.
Svt parts would be UIM/LIM/TB SVT cams19lb injectors, oil cooler and radiator all from the svt contour with a xcal tune. both the 2.5 and 3l are from ford. the 2.5 and 3.0 are BOTH duratec which ford produced.

I would hate to think that someone would lie about having 220hp

- the ony 200HP duratec was the svt and your right at introduction it was 195 and with the tuning of the intake system they had 200 but they were both 2.5, I believe you made that point though. at 1st i thought you were saying that the svt had a 3.0 version...lol

you're right on one thing i got the taurus number wrong it was 200/200 when i started my project before i added the svt parts I was at 225 due in part to h/I/E cams and injectors at the crank, which gave me 190at the wheels. the rest was added later amoungst other things.

I dont take offense to pointed out some things, but my car really wasnt the point of my rant. And in some ways it was because that car was another good car that couldve went up against the likes of rsx's civics srt4's and cobalts but ford decided otherwise. My point was ford dropped the ball in several areas power is one of them and i still stand behind what i said 227 in a 3L was ok a while back but in 07/08 they should have done better, especially on fuel economy as well. I also dont understand why some cars dont make it here. they said no one would pay 25-30k for the RS focus, but at the same time why would it need to cost that much. its a dirt cheap car everyone else has figured out how to get a decent performer for 25-30k so why cant they. it just seems like they keep making excuses and disappointments

I have run a K&N drop in for the last 20,000 miles and the other day I inspected the intake tube as well as the MAF..all where very clean and free of any soot or oil residue..

I'm quite satisfied with the performance of the K&N.

After reading the many posts, someone said there x air filter was held down with 4 clips.
I say aftermarket. Read studies and some will say factory filters are better than aftermarket ones and vice versa.

I was getting at the original 2.5 being designed by Porsche/Cosworth collaboration, then Ford detuning it down a bit.

The air filter debate is as old as the oil argument.

General consensus through testing shows better filtration w/a paper element. With the Jag, I would go w/the OE.

Speaking of this, anyone have the OE number on this?...I'm assuming it's for Motorcraft.

Thanks Dennis.

However, to be honest, I don't think I'll be getting a Jaguar filter, unless it's some ridiculous 60% off sale! I'm hoping Motorcraft manufactures something for us...

FJT, any ideas?

I wouldlook at the filter itself. There should be a warez number on it. Would be like 4x93-1111wa or something looking like that.
You can go to a ford dealer with that warez number and see if they have it.

Sorry guys, Ford parts man here - that won't cross-ref. for me. I get my air and cabin filters from Carquest. Oil filter is a Motorcraft FL400S though. 2.5 and 3.0 are the same.

My local NAPA Auto Parts was the only store in the area that had the correct air filter for the X-type. The lady there told me they always keep 2 of this particular filter in stock. It is the NAPA brand, Gold Series, Item#: FIL2625, for $14.33.
