Default X-type green & red lights left side of instrument + beeping

I have a 2005 X type and when I start the car, a red LED on the left side of the instrument panel goes on and it beeps. After a few seconds a green light goes on steady. The car then has a high-pitched beep every five seconds or so I cannot find these two LEDs anywhere in any manual. Do you know what they are and why it continues to beep while the car runs, the two lights are on the side of the instrument panel, not out in the cluster.

I have both a 2002 and a 2005 X-Type, both owned for many years; I have never seen lights like this nor heard the beeping you describe. Is your car by chance from a different market area (meaning neither US nor Canadian market)?

The lights appear to be mounted in the black inner shroud panel rather than in the OEM instrument cluster.

Could they be part of an after-market alarm system?

Adding those LEDs required removing the dash and taking it apart enough to drill into the instrument cluster bezel. After-market alarm installers would avoid that much disassembly and reassembly and put the lights somewhere easier to get to I think. It definitely seems like an after-market something.

well, not if the lights are mounted in the black plastic cowling, as I suggested above. That cowling, I think, is where the photos show the installation. The lights are not in the instrument panel itself (as far as I can determine from the photos). In any case the lights are definitely not OEM items.

Let’s see what the OP has tosay.

Default Problem Solved!

It is an aftermarket hidden radar detector. The sensor was tucked-in the lower spoiler. Now I just have to rip that bad-boy out. I purchased the car used 10+ years ago and this is the first time I had any lights or sounds from it. Many thanks to everyone for the input!
