X-type headlamp element price query (UK) - RESOLVED
Hi all,
Apologies if this question has already been asked. I am being quoted a healthy £380 for changing the rear element (Rectifier? sory I do not know the term to describe he black box that the bulb is seated into) of the drivers headlamp and replacing the main bulb.
The part is quoted at £194, plus labour (I am told the bumper needs to come off to do the job) is this market price?

Welcome to the forum fairnie01,
Life is always easier with a diagram!
If it's not the adjusters, I think you refer to either the Ballast Module (item 6) or the Ignitor (item 9) in an HID headlamp?
If you can confirm the part, I'm sure we can come up with average cost or the X-Type experts will be able to tell you how to DIY.

Ballast/Balis(?) module
Many thanks for the support and especially the diagram!
The item was the ballast module (part n6 below). It cost £194 !! and two hours labour incl. bumper off and on for a otal of £384!!
Labour in Aberdeen runs around £60 to £65 per hour + vat.
I do like my Jaguar but it's starting to cost a bit of money these days.
I appreciate everyones help, thanks again.

Good to hear you got it fixed.
When you look at the sequence on a simple fault of [headlamp off - headlamp fixed - pay £384], it does bring tears to the eyes!
You could have saved a bit of money by shopping around for parts but the labour charge isn't unreasonable nowadays. DIY is the only way to keep running costs right down on any Jaguar. If you want to go that route, you'll find all the advice you need is available on the forum.

Headlights
Further to your post, I note on Fleabay that X Type (Hella) Ballasts are anywhere between £70 and £120 new.
FYI getting the bumper off is not a huge issue apart from some rusted bots.
Your Labour charge ain't bad although some garages will be about £50 plus Vat per hour assuming you can't do a cash jobby. You might find a garage that will fit your sourced parts and only charge you the Labour.
I suggest you ask ask round the Forum in future before committing to expensive work.
