X-Type J004 recall update
As I originally suspected, no software update will be in dealers prior to 1/20/09 and I highly recommend you contact your dealer and make sure they have the correct software after this date. In fact I wouldn't allow your cars to have the J004 done until mid February to be safe. Many problems with both ECM and TCM software and most if not all that have already been done will have to be redone if their computers haven't been fataly damaged. Fataly damaged computers can be replaced and reflashed on a piece by piece basis with software available from FSEs but this can takes days if not weeks.

There is another post that details the VIN numbers involved and the repair. As far as your '04 check your VIN against the list and if it got the ECM only reflash you are good to go, the TCM portion is where the problem is and yes the wrong software has been destroying TCMs, not that it would cost the customer anything it may cause you car to stay at the dealer for a couple days until parts arrive.

RE: X-Type J004 recall update
Yesterday I received a call from the dealer to ask how my service went last week. I told them everything was fine but was still wondering about the recall they did pertaining to the reflash. They got the shop foreman on the phone and he told me they had the correct and up to date software and that everything was done correctly.
That put me at ease and still my Jag is running great.**Knocking on Wood** LOL
All of you other owners should not be afraid of taking your cars in for the recall.

RE: X-Type J004 recall update
It is 2:45 EST 01/22/2009 and the software patch file has still not been sent to the IDS and TCM programming is still not possible. The deadline that Jaguar gave was 01/23 which is tomorrow. It remains to be seen if the patch arrives or not. On top of this the transmission control modules for X-types are now on intergalactic backorder due to the number damaged by the faulty software. I would highly advise you not to have the J004 recall or any TCM repairs until the patch arrives. I will be sure to update as soon as the patch loads.

Yes, that would be the ideal time as it would take the tech about 4 extra minutes to do it. Shouldn't charge you for it but then that's my opinion and does not apply to all techs or dealers.
As expected the patch file did not arrive today. Been checking the updates all day hoping it would make it but no luck yet. I will keep you posted.

RE: X-Type J004 recall update
R_T, I don't know if you saw it but a poster on another thread had his X Type flashedlast Friday and towedback last Saturday.
Pete, it's a good thing your dealer operates in real_time, apparently others do not. I wouldn't be bringing my car in for a test case until the all-clear is sounded. Good piece of work, this.
Are parts on intergalactic backorder made out of unobtainium?

RE: X-Type J004 recall update
This is a RECALL and applies to all cars on the VIN list in or out of warranty. I have a suspicion that since the recall is for emmission related OBDII problems the software upgrades had to be approved by the federal government. This approval process may be the reason for the delay with the new software. If major changes had to be made it may have to be certified again which could take ????.
Intergalactic back order means that the required IC chips have been sucked into a black hole on the other side of the galaxy. We have to wait until that black hole explodes in a huge gamma ray burst to release the lost data. After that happens the TCMs will be built and available for install. This can take as long months. Kidding aside the back order on the TCMs means there is no stock in the U.S. and no stock in the U.K. and when you query the parts wharehouse the estimated time of delivery is NO ETA. I have seen parts in this status for MONTHS but I suspect considering the seriousness of the problem whips will be cracking in the sweatshops to get the TCMs built in a timely manor.
Also still no software at end of day Friday 01/23.
