Take a look at the post on the link below. The manual trans starters are not to bad to remove.

I have seen the link previously but on looking at my car it was not so straight forward.
I watched a YouTube tutorial yesterday which did help a lot and I managed to get the starter off , clean it up and back on. Unfortunately the starter is jamming which means a new one must be bought.
For any future people wanting to do the same this is how I did it.
1, locate the starter (in my case it was at the front of the engine attached to the bell housing underneath the air intake)
2, I removed the battery and casing using a 10mm spanner.
3, I removed the air intake manifold and plate using a 13 mm spanner on the plate and a pare of grips to release the pressure on the clamp so I could remove the outlet.( Remember to unplug any electric cables plugged into intake)
4, Because of the tight squeeze between the radiator (fan) and the starter I had to use a extension bar on a ratchet to remove three nut's from the starter solenoid 2 x 13mm ,1 x 10mm.
5, I then located the bolts holding the starter on to the bell housing these bolts are two fold as they also have a bracket attached to them. The bracket is held on by two 10mm nut's and has alot of cables attached to it so is quite awkward to move out of the way.
The bolts are then on a 13mm spanner into bell housing.
As mentioned in another post it was stated (the bolts are vertical and you can see them looking straight down).
This was not the case with my starter the two bolts were horizontal facing out towards the radiator and placed top and bottom which meant I had to remove the plate from the bottom of the car and go underneath to remove bottom bolt.
6, Once starter was free I then had to manoeuvre it towards the right past cables and hoses and then out through where the battery sits.
The starter was then stripped down and cleaned and replaced in reverse order as above.
I hope this helps anyone in future.
