x type noise
hello i have a 2005 x type that has been making a noise that is similar to the airplane noise that people say is the driveshaft bearing. i put grease in it but made no difference.noise starts around 25-30 mph and stays constant after that. if im driving straight it like comes in and out but if i turn steering wheel left it goes completely away and if i turn right its there constantly and doesnt go away till i turn left. i checked the play in wheel bearings and there isnt any. i changed the tranny fluid and xfer case fluid about a year ago. and this noise problem has been going on for about 2 months. i dont want to start throwing money at this. any ideas?

you can feel it in steering wheel shifter knob pretty much in whole car. i made a audio recording of it and have to figure out how to put it in post. but you can clearly hear the noise at anything over 30 mph and just jerking the wheel to the left make it go away till i bring wheel back to center.

iownme, my experience is when you turn in the direction of the bad wheel bearing, it unloads the wheel, removing the pressure on the bearing, causing the noise to reduce/go away. Turning the other way adds more pressure to the bearing and will cause the noise to continue. Same thought can be used with CV joints, but in this case, what happens is the wheel on the inside starts turning slower, causing the engine power to the shifted away from it, reducing the strain on the CV joint, reducing the amount of noise it will make.

That's funny, I always had experience that the turn that caused the noise to increase indicated the opposite wheel problem. But here was my thought process = didn't unload the pressure but increased it. So bad left, turn right, weight of car shifts to the left causing more load, lol. Guess my thoughts were wrong. The end result is still the same.
