I married my wife when her daughter was 5. I adopted her when she was 12. Friday last week we moved her to college (20 now).
I have 3 children with my wife that are mine "biologically".
I'd have to agree with JimC64....
The relationship I developed with my 'step' and then adopted-daughter is very different from that of my other kids. The biological bond is a strong one, and accounts for much.
That being said, there's also something pretty special about a child who gets to CHOOSE whether or not you'll be her Dad. That can help foster it's own kind of very special relationship.
Like most things in life, I think it's all about what you put into it. (But both must invest, or it remains one-sided)

I'm a stepdad to my wifes 17 yr old son....Its very hard. Wife has her ways and I have mine, sometimes he 'll be getting away with stuff that I don't think he should. Can be quite loveable but also very frustrating too. I do my best.
I don't care what anyome says but there's no way you can possibly love a stepchild as much as you own, which makes it very difficult at the weekends, although they are all treated as equally as possible.
My own dad died when I was 8.. still miss him ad of course he was the " best dad in the world"......lol

Having been in this scenario for 10 years what amazes me so much is the little things in daily life. Things that are usually taken for granted and in themselves mean nothing but can be perceived as " favouritism " to your own. It almost seems that everything you do is being judged.
Furthermore, I'm in the unfortunate position where I try to be the absolute best absentee father I can be to my own kids, whilst their true biological father is unfortunately a waste of space, who never calls or spends time with them, however does make an " effort " at birthdays and xmas. This however, only serves to magnify the huge gulf that exists between his ways as a father and mine.
Some of my happiest memories have been of birthday / xmas cards from my stepkids to their "dad" with all the sincere and loving words that go with them and the extra special presents which mean so much because you know what it means

Hey Ibateman............these are great cars. sorry to hear you're having probs, but Christo is right.
In fact better to have the problem now if you think about it?
You should have at least 30 days warranty if not more depending on the year. Take it back and demand that they get it fixed.
Please keep us informed

Hey all...sorry I have been missing...I've been tremendously busy lately. Between the holidays and going back to MI and the whole job stuff going on I've been wrapped up...
I have my oral review Thursday, hopefully that works out...Yesterday for a different department I did a ride-in! Man was that fun!
Few weeks from now I could be really really busy or really really depressed and bored!![Big Grin](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
BTW anyone care to PM me with the details on bojangles?

What's up boys?
Man, here I thought I would have time over my holidays to post on here, but alas I was too busy. Hope everyones' holiday was merry.
Made it back down to TX from MI, safely and am not looking to do that drive for a VERY long time.
Aquill, good luck w/the job, man. Did you guys get your dog up to MI alright?
Have a good New Year, everyone.

No we ended up leaving the dog with a co-worker.
That drive sucks doesn't it? Your drive really sucks because you have to go through Illinois and Indiana. I take the southern route which is much much nicer!
How long did it take you and did you do it straight or no?

Hey Caddy...good to see you sticking around, too. I did, indeed miss seeing your signature...With all due respect, hubba hubba!
Aquill- Yeah, I have to take the 94E route from Chicago through good ol' Gary, IN. I drive straight through IL, going through Springfield.
When going home I did it straight. Mind you this was after a stint of 6 final exams in 10 days. It took me 29 hours including a 1 hr nap in Lebanon, MO and a 2 hrs nap in a place I don't even really recall!!! To be honest, after about 500 miles, the rest of the 900 miles became very fuzzy and I barely recall any of it! On the return journey I took an overnight hault in Springfield, MO (~750 miles from Detroit) then a 650 mile drive from Springfield, MO to Lubbock.
Let's just say I'm not doing this crap anymore.[&:]

Yeah jim i don't think we have any car here in the states that would get 46.2mpg! Way to throw it in our face! LOL Perhaps the prius but I'd never drive that ugly thing...[:'(]
Ancient went home to my homestate to see the family over the Holidays. Only you put that kind of mileage on your vehicles! LOL
Yeah it's a long haul ain't it ancient?
When we went home we drove straight and I drove almost all of it...we left around 10/11pm and arrived in MI around 7/8pm (IIRC?) The way home sucked! Steph started off driving and once we got in or out of Detroit I set up the gps to take the southern route. I went to sleep and we ended up driving into Ohio and she didn't pay attention to the gps and the direction she was going so we ended up going all the way across Ohio and went through Illinois and Indiana. We will never do that again, that route sucks so bad. Steph drove our whole trip almost, I drove for a few hours and couldn't even stay awake (I had the flu and my back was killing me), I was doing anything and everything to stay awake and it didn't work. It took us over 24hrs to drive the way home but we also stopped and slept at a rest stop for a few hours in Ohio. We didn't get too much sleep the few days before we left and woke up around 8am the day we left. We ended up leaving MI around 9/10pm. So we didn't start the trip off well anyways. For us driving it wasn't that bad, getting around 16mpg sucks![:'(]

That was highway mpg and when gas was over $4 a gallon...our trip to MI while the wife was on maternity leave (and not paid for 2mths.) so it kind of sucked. We spent over a $1,000 in gas to drive to MI from Texas, driving while in MI and driving back to TX.
Our mpg locally is about 9mpg for the whole tank (gas price is low now though.) That isn't a big deal but 16 sucks pretty bad for a highway trip. We only fill up once a week or week and a 1/2, so that isn't a big deal either.
We honestly couldn't complain though because it would have been better had it not been for all of the crap we had to bring back! [:@] We had enough weight for our car to squat a little bit, not to mention we had a hitch carrier mounted on the back with a couple hundred pounds. All in all it wasn't bad but compared to 46 I'm complaining!

LoL............46MPG was after the car had been round town stop start for a few months, with way more stuff than I should have in the boot,so the average was totally destroyed. Most of the journey was at a steady 80 but more than a few blasts at 100+ to keep the boredom at bay.
The best ever was on a 2 day 1000 mile trip from Glasgow to South Wales with a few stops here n there. The average was pretty good to start with and at a steady 80 the whole time I got it up to 51.2mpg
![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
When I next filled her up the trip said I could acheive 900 miles ( obviously if I had driven the same style, motorway and very cautiously .
Still not bad huh?
