Default X-Type only revs to 3k

2002 plate 2.1 V6 petrol car drives a bit lumpy upto 3k revs then cuts off till below 3k, told when I brought the car could be lamba sensor. Can anyone help as to the cause.

I had that and it was the cat breaking up in the exhaust and blocking it.
If you give it a good shake you might be able to hear rattling around.

You need to pull the codes (OBD2) & look for solution here under SEARCH. The car is going into "limp mode", a protection to at least get you home when the car is having a problem.

In case that's when parked, it likely has a rev-limitter (same as my car has).

Rev limiter at 3k when parked? I never heard of that and my X-Type certainly didn't have that? Was that something from the factory on some models? I have never heard of something like that from any manufacturer.

Apparently on a very few X's there is an ASL (automatic speed limiter) button on the opposite side of the center console to the "sport mode" button. Seems like an odd duplication combined/instead of cruise control.

A rev limiter, yes, I know it has that, but limited to 3K when in park? Never heard of that.

Certainly mine is limited to 3000 in park to protect various things such as the trans.

Think about the heat being created and the quite limited cooling....

Also, you don't really NEED to rev that much when parked!

Did you ever solve this problem.
Mine was acting similar and it was the knock sensor. Plugged in a new one, bolted it to an easier to get to place on the block and it runs perfect.
