Update: I decided to check if the fuse for that oxygen sensor heater was blown and it turned out to be MISSING. I put in a new fuse and I feel like the car is running like new. I will make sure to confirm by getting the codes checked again, but I'm sure that was the problem. About how long do you think before code 1000 clears itself?

NeWb, first replace the O2 sensor and see how things go then. I bet you will find that replacing only the O2 sensor will correct your situation. For a cat to go bad in you Kitty is a very rare thing. Also, check on the price of a new cat for the Kitty. I bet you will be really willing just to replace the O2 sensor and see.

Yes, the fuse for the heater was missing. I have felt a difference since replacing it but the code is still present, so it seems that did not fix the problem entirely. In the end, I may just need to get the new sensor. I read your description on how to replace it but I'm still not sure how to go about it. Is there somewhere that describes this procedure in detail with maybe some pictures showing exactly where to look?

Thermo, I am rehashing old issues here, but in my long story with the OBD II reader not working I had codes pulled from the dealer of p1638 & p1637. The OBD II reader get "no link" and these codes indicate a CAN LINK errors. I also noticed that my lights dash flicker from time to time when illuminated at night. I am guessing the OBD II reader doesn't read because of a faulty connection between it and the instrument cluster. Do you think any of this is related and how would I check the IC if you think so? thanks so much again
