RE: x-type purchase
I picked up a 2004 3 months ago. I love the car. For the money, sorry for anyone that bought new, there isn't another car that can touch it. That all being said, I bought a 3rd party power train warranty, non-jaguar, from the dealership i bought the car from. I've already taken it in for the oil pan gasket leaking and ABS light came on. Oil pan gasket would have been ~$1000 (9.2hours labor $95/hr) if the warranty hadn't covered it and a speed sensor to fix the ABS light was another $320 out of pocket. I'm glad I picked up the extended warranty but so far no regrets.

Keep in mind also that even the earlier jags can be had for quite low amounts of money...take that money into consideration to the 04 or 05 and see what it equals out to. Anymore though I've seen 04 and 05 sports with the ground effects and 18's go for 13k-14k. For that kind of money the car would still be under the full bumper to bumper which would be nice. You don't have to worry about the newer ones. Keep in mind every car has problems, but the newer one's are less problematic as a whole. Take care of her and she'll take care of you!

RE: x-type purchase
I second the opinion about an extended warranty. They tend to be less expensive when there are less miles on the car. Granted I have a 2002, but the warranty has paid for itself 10 fold. I also purchased a 3rd party warranty from the dealer. Covers an additional 5 years, 75k mi, and includes just about everything. Peace of mind. Anything other than routine maintenance stuff gets expensive fast.
You can alsoask your localJag dealer look up the car and see what's been done to it already (in most cases) along the lines of recalls or TSB's. A used car is still a used car and is somewhat dependent on the habits of the prior owner.
