X-type R, is it possible?

X-type R, is it possible?
Hello,
I know somebody has probably asked this before or maybe even attempted and maybe even ACCOMPLISHED (I would really like to see that), but is it possible to do an engine swap from the S-type R or from the XKR into the X-type? Basically I saw an article here that says that it is possible? I also know that the S-Type and X-Type share the same 3.0L V6 engine which means that the mounts are most likely the same and it should bolt right up to the manual tranny. Has anyone done this? If it is going to involve some custom fabrication, what would that be? How about the ECU, will the 4.2L supercharged V8 ECU plug directly up to the X-type wiring harness?
Any help would be very appreciated!

im pretty sure the engine wont fit as the 4.2litre is much larger and you would need a diff hood or a hood scoop to clear the supercharger. Also, im 99% sure you would need a new tranny, ive heard the X type manual is quite weak even with teh 3.0, the R has 400lb ft of torque, so it would probably rip it to shreds. If you are seriously considering this I would tell you to step up to an R for a lot less money most likely!

Your best bet would be to add a turbo to the 3.0L motor and then do a fair amount of work to the tranny/transfer case to upgrade it to handle the extra power. From what I am finding, the motor is easily capable of generating/handling the extra power. It is the tranny/transfer case that are the weak link. So, figure a turbo setup will probably cost you about $3000 to have installed and you can probably plan on another $1500 or so to upgrade the transfer case/tranny. Probably need to look at a shift kit to create firmer shifts, an upgraded gear set to handle the power and then upgraded parts for the transfer case for the torque splitting.
Good thing to note is if you do all this work at the same time, it will be cheaper as most shops will remove the tranny/transfer case with the engine for a small additional price vice charging you as if you were removing only the tranny and/or transfer case.

I don't know about that man, it seems like it is a lot of money and who knows if it will hold up well. Is there anyway to "disengage" the front end completely so it doesn't turn the wheels. That way it will be a rear wheel drive and a little easier on the tranny?

Well that would be easier but I hate the way the S-type looks and hate the fact that it is an automatic. So what would be another possibility to make the X-type around 5 second car (0-60)?

i think that would be a pretty wild idea. lol. Last summer when I was out to my Jag dealer to get my key FOB programmed I was in the showroom looking at an X and it was one with a sport package and I asked the guy when did they make a R version of this! He said it obviously isnt an R but me and him agreed that would be one heck of an idea just to supercharge the little 6 cylinder X kinda like the original XJR6's.

If you want a 5-6 second to 60 X-Type, just get a nitrous setup and keep a spare transfer case in your garage.
Otherwise, until someone figures something out with these weak transfer cases, you'll have to deal the fact that there is virtually no aftermarket support for these cars when it comes to modifications.
Honestly, I'd pay good money to turbo my car. However, I know I'd be switching out the transfer case once a year. The tranny, providing that you have a manual obviously, would hold up just fine, within reason <=300 HP.

You could get the Getrag manual box from the S-Type.....great box.
We had a racing version of the X. It had a 5.0 V8 and was rear wheel drive only. Awesome car. Was going for a one off exhibition thing.
I believe in the UK you can get X-Type without AWD. Would be best to get rid of the AWD then try to deal with the torque steer.
If you don't like the way S-Type looks, get an XJR instead. Will be cheaper and easier in the long run.

IMO..By the time you invest all that money into converting an X to an X-R..you might as well spenda buck or two more and get a nice low mileage STR..I would

The X-Type AWD + Manual tranny with more power, 260 HP or better, would be the perfect car for me. Too bad I don't live in a perfect world. [:@]

As I understand it this car has the 3.0 V6 engine similar if not the same as the Jags
