Hey guys,
I am looking for a quick weekend project. This weekend i was thinking of tinting my side markers. I have a black 03 x-type. It is the non sport model, so it obviously has chrome. Do you think it would look nice? How should i go about this process.
Thanks!
Gupta

Gupta, I tinted my side markers and I think you will like the look. Granted, this drove me to doing the sport conversion to my car (still have to do the chrome trim that goes over the windows).
When I did this, I did it slightly differently than most. But, I did it so I could control the darkness a bit more. I first removed all 6 marker lights from the car. I cleaned them really good and then sprayed them with some adhesion promoter (this is a must as it will allow the color layer to stick to the lens and not crack on you when the weather changes). Once dry, I took a sheet of paper and sprayed some RC Car Window Tint paint on to a sheet of paper and let the excess run into a small air brush jar. From there I thinned it down 4:1 (4 parts thinner to 1 part paint). I then applied a few coats of paint to each side marker until the desired darkness was obtained (of note, go a little darker than you are wanting as the tint paint will lighten slightly when drying). I was able to paint all 6 marker lights and then immediately go back to the first one I painted to start the second round of paint. Once the tint paint was dry, I clear coated the marker lights and let dry over night. From there I re-installed the side marker lights. if you want some pics, let me know. Put a little bit of a shadow on the car and the side marker lights disappear. Get them into the sun a little bit and you can see that they are there, but they are subdued. I like the look.
If you have any more questions, just ask. You don't have to thin the tint paint like I did, but it can make it more difficult to get an even color over the light surface. Up to you.

Gupdah, the RC windows tint paint can be had at most hobby stores that sell RC Cars (worst case, look up http://www.hobbytown.com). The 4 ounce can of paint will cost you about $5. As for the adhesion promotor and clear, that can run you an additional $15 and as much as $60. It all depends on how much that you buy with the intention of other projects.
I will do some looking around and see what pics I can find to show the before and after.
