Default X-Type Sport - Lower Front Spoiler

Does anyone know the OEM part # for the lower front spoiler that comes on the 06 Sport? I can't seem to find it anywhere after a lengthy web search. Do they come painted - or to you have to have them painted? I'm guessing they're around $300 US. Can't call the dealer until Monday.

Does anyone know if they can be repainted? Or, is replacement the only option?

I'm thinking about replacing mine - but the da*n things are so easy to ding - I'm afraid I'll just ding up the new one. So, maybe I should leave well enough alone. Unfortunately, I'm a perfectionist - so even a few small scrapes drive me crazy.

I'd love to hear any feedback from other Sport owners who have struggled with this dilemma.

Thanks...

Kevin, normally body parts do not come painted, so, you will need to add a little bit to have it painted. If the current one is only chipped, what I would recommend doing is giving it to a paint shop and they can sand it down, get rid of the chips and then paint it again. You won't be able to tell that it has been repainted (other than the chips will be gone). I painted the spoiler on my car. If you are in the Norfolk VA area, I would tell you to come on over and we can do it at my place. It doesn't take much to paint this piece. It comes off really easy. The hard part is getting something to hand the piece by so you can paint the whole piece. But, a piece of coat hanger does the trick.

Chris/Thermo -

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, I'm on the wrong coast.

Anyway, I didn't mention that the spoiler in question also has about a 4" crack. Not really noticeable, and I've glued it together. Is that something that the paint shop guys could do a more permanent repair on?

Thanks again,

K

The only parts that come to our bodyshop prepainted are Honda bumpers, some Ford Focus/Fiesta bumpers, some Mercedes door moulds and Volvo door mirror caps..
Virtually all other parts that need painting come primed ready for sanding and then painting.
If the part number of the spoiler ends XXX then XXX means it comes primed and not painted.

Kevin, due to the plastic used, getting a new piece will be the better option. What you did is probably about a good as what the body shop could do. If you have an airbrush, that is all it takes to put some paint on the spoiler. That is how I did mine.

FWIW I had my entire front bumper painted after striking some road debris on the highway. Cost to prep/paint plus replacement of that little splitter part that runs across the main grille opening and repair a crackwas around $800. The parts do not come painted. The shop told me just a strip and paint the bumperwould have been around $400 for the entire front bumper.

Of course I ended up destroying the entire front end of the car 6 months later and had to do it all over again.

As for Maaco, you get what you pay for, which is an orange peel, fish eyed, runs and drips, enamel spray job that you could have done better in your yard with a paintbrush and roller.

That being said, they do have a niche. I let them paint my Jeep rock buggy since it's only gonna get destroyed again anyway and I didn't have time to do it myself.

I know that now! I knew that before as my wife had her truck painted and paid 700 or 800 for the entire extended cab sonoma. It didn't look too bad. I figured I paid $200 or $220 just for the detached rear bumper to be painted, I figured 200 for a detached bumper was pretty high. My problem wasnt so much the paint job as it was the reaction they gave me towards the sucky paint job! There were also fish-eyes/bubbles. The guy was like that's expected! I was like WTF??? I wanted to complain but I figure I'll just wash my hands from them. Besides the overall look got the car sold (I did tell every person that looked at the car about the whole situation though.)

part # is C2S42584XXX
List price is $443.00
and they do not come painted

This thing sits really low to the gound, so be aware that curbs and speedbumps will not be your friends! It does look really good though.
