X-type Transfer case
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering is everyone's transfer case loud? I replaced my tires, wheel bearings and still loud, my mechanic told me it is most likely my transfer case. I had the oil changed recently and it is still very loud. Car has about 54k miles on it.
Do i really have to replace it to make this awful humming go away?
Thanks

noise
Pin it down this way: loud crying sound at about 20/25 mph either accelerating or decelerating but not a road speed: It's the center drive shaft bearing,( worse in cold weather):i
Low speed moaning (sounds like a truck) goes away above 40mph: probably transfer case or trany. Mine has been doing it for 10 years after flushes and has never changed (doesn't seem to matter what temperature it is outside).
Humming, buzzing sound above 50 mph probably a wheel bearing.
Clicking, or buzzing when turning: Axle (CVC joint)
Grinding or buzzing when stopping: brake rotor.
Any loud noise from the passenger side: Probably the wife. LOL
