Talking XType froze over night??

i have a 2002 xtype 2.5 with about 120,000 miles. usually when its really cold over night it will just say 'cruiser not available' & do a little shaking motion i guess. this morning i let it run for about 15 minutes with the defrosters on & so on so forth, when i got back in the car to 'take off' the car seemed to be off, the screen was off, it was basically silent but i knew the engine was so i turned it off and tried to turn it back on and nothing happened it just did a little 'trying to turn on but cant' noise.. if i make any sense? could it have been the battery? i didnt have time to ask anyone to check it for me since i was on my way to work. (i'm a girl ) help?

There are a few things that will force the computer to disable cruise-control, but in this case it sounds like a dying battery. You should have the ECU fault codes read first though, if possible.

Dead or dying battery.

Here in North Dakota, I've already dealt with well-below-freezing temps, and see that it is time for a new battery despite keeping it on a 'proper' battery tender.

The most obvious (to me) indication was a kind of "pulsating" of the temp/heater readout display. Then it threw a few weird codes, too. All false.

Am saving for a true "CAT" brand (Caterpillar) battery. As Thermo will tell you, they ALL come off only one or two different manufacturer's assembly lines, but seeing "CAT" on the battery of the Jag will be worth the extra $50.
