2017 XE totaled by a deer (photos attached)
Since this deer ran into the passenger side of my car I was unable to see it coming. Truly a heartbreaking moment when I heard they declared the jag a total loss. I took it to a shop and they quoted the repairs at 13-14k, which was a lot but it was a not at fault incident so I only needed to pay my deductible ($1,000). The shop called me back and said they couldn't get certain parts since they're not a Jaguar approved repair shop, so I had to go elsewhere. I called the Jaguar dealership near me to see if they can do the repairs but they said they couldn't either, and that I would have to go to a 'Jaguar approved repair shop'. Finally about 2 hrs away was a shop that can work on Jaguars, I sent them over the insurance approved estimate so they can apply their rates and labor hours, they responded with a $22,400 repair estimate. $125/hr labor and about 101 hours of labor needed, plus parts. I bought the car used with 30k miles on it for $28k btw. At this point it has 48k miles and I've had it for 2 years now. An insurance agent came out to get a value on my car before the next steps, he got back to me with a valuation of about $27,500. Not terrible considering the time I had it and the miles I put on it I guess. Maybe just since used car prices are rising I got a near purchase point valuation. Basically, all the repairs could have been done except for the aluminum quarter panel, which is located above the rear passenger tire. A shop can't work on those or order a new one unless they're 'Jaguar approved', which means they probably have to pay for a license and stuff. And shops that do have the license will most likely charge more per labor hour to get their money back on the investment they made into the license. Sucks for me but I understand business is business. Just be aware of this and try to avoid any damage to your quarter panels lol. With the money I'll be getting back I'm going to buy a car under 10k, even looking at some under 5k. I'll pocket a lot that I'll be saving towards my next Jag, who knows maybe I'll get the F-Type

I guess the need for a "Jaguar approved" repair shop is due to the aluminium (or aluminum in the US) construction of a lot of the XE's body, requiring either specialist bonding or riveting. Still, $22.4k does look to be VERY expensive for what looks to be superficial damage to the side of the car, but the aluminum repairs may be why.
When I lived in the US I had an ancient pickup truck turn left into me as I overtook it, leading to very similar damage all down one side of my Dodge Charger. It required new door skins, a rocker panel cover, door window glass, door mirror, front wheel and some front suspension components plus front fender repairs. This was of course all steel to repair and the total bill came to around $10k. I escaped having to pay my deductible because I'd taken out uninsured driver cover - and the offending pickup was of course uninsured.

The DEER deserved to be hurt! And I'm a lover of forest animals... but DAMN IT, deer, this is a 2017 XE!! The designers named this car brand after forest critters like you---have you no sense at all---GO HIT a damn Lamborghini!
Here in New York, that's considered body panel damage---you have no broken glass, just a lot of re-tuning and replacing of sporadic modules and components that Jaguar buries in the car's doors and behind the quarter panels.
I wish we had you here in New York---there's a bodywork shop that the Insurance companies know about by reputation and they know this shop's "fixes" restore the car to spec---so the insurance company it's getting full value for the repair cost, and they go ahead and pay the cost---as long as it's from THIS shop. (That's a big woah.)
Yes, even a single panel on a Jaguar is costly to repair.... A NEW XE will be covered by insurance companies in an expensive first crash only. When a USED XE gets into an expensive first crash, your insurance company wants to spit on your car.
It's not about the car. Like a broker said to me once, NO insurance company is worthy of praise for too long---they are all a business profit, NOT an insurance profit. It's best to hate them all.
As for an F-Type---from what I hear, the insurers put an even shorter coverage expectancy on those, due to their "sportiness"...
The weight-difference and super balance of your XE gave it the ballast to resist the deer and not spin you out to the nearest hospital.
Imagine what the deer would have done to an F-Type in the same impact---they'd by claiming it a total loss even if the car was bought NEW. The deer that dented up Bambi, would have KILLED Thumper.
...Damned deer... I'm an owner of a 2017 XE, and even I feel hurt by what happened.
