Default 2018 XE 25t Coolant Leak

Hey All,

So I noticed over the weekend the car had a 8in spill under the passenger side front. Upon looking into it, found it was coolant leaking from under some heat shielding around a plastic tube. It is located on the Passenger side of the engine compartment, i am unable to see the actual leak as its coming from under the heat shield and running down that tube. I was afraid removing anything will mess with the warranty or something... Does anyone have any idea what this might be? I have attached some photos for a better understanding. Also, the car has 57k miles, would the warranty cover something like this as to looking into it. I live about 35mi away from the dealer and don't know if i should be driving it. It only leaks when the car is running, so we have garaged it until fixed.
Thanks,
Brian
2018 XE 25T 2.0 Gas

looks as if a hole has burned through the heat shield?

Label on the suspected leaking tube

Plastic tube connects to the rear engine here..

Top view on that tube with the heat shield, Passenger Side of engine

Coolant is running this tube from under the heat shield.

No warning lights nor low coolant

Seems fine to drive until you park it and see the puddle...

Thanks.

It looks like the turbo cooling line is what is leaking. If you're within the 5yr/60k warranty, it should definitely be covered. I would recommend towing it as so not to make a small leak turn big and overheat.

Surely recovery to a dealer is included in the warranty ? My UK warranty covers assistance in the whole of Europe.

The warranty in the UK at least is only for 3 years (I think this is poor for a supposedly up-market car). Is it for longer in the US?

Just noticed - the XE in question is a 2018, so warranty will still be valid at least until the new year.

In the US it is called "Jaguar EliteCare, you’ll enjoy Best-In-Class, 5-year/60,000-mile coverage*, complimentary scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance"

That is indeed much better than the UK (and I suspect Europe) where only 3 years or 100,000km (about 62,000miles) is offered, and no free scheduled maintenance or servicing. I'm feeling aggrieved!

Don’t feel too aggrieved; I had planned to buy a new XE next year when the 5-year warranty on my current XE (2017 model, purchased in 2016) expires, but the XE has now been cancelled in the US after the current model year.

I have no interest in buying a car that is a year old even when brand new, especially when resale value will be further diminished by the cancellation of the model.

AFAIK, the XE model will remain alive in the UK.

Yes, I'd noticed that the XE will no longer be available in the US from model year 2021. It's still available in the UK but with much reduced choice - only 2 engines and 2 trim levels (plus a range of expensive options of course). Also, the UK government has just announced that it will ban the sale of all petrol and diesel cars from 2030, so I wonder how long Jaguar will keep making the XE - or whether they will offer a full electric version in due course.
I'm afraid the eco-zealots have taken over in the UK and anyone who actually enjoys motoring is increasingly frowned upon as "destroying the planet". Up to recently I'd lived for around 20 years in the US and really enjoyed my cars there - including several Dodge Chargers with 5.7L V8 engines. I can't imagine that any US government would dare to ban petrol and diesel cars.

I live in an attached row house on a block where there are almost no private driveways, and where street parking is very difficult... you cannot count on finding a space anywhere near your house.

I park my car in a public garage a few blocks away. The garage has no charging devices for electric vehicles.

If gasoline/petrol-fueled vehicles were outlawed, car ownership would become impossible for most large city residents (which would of course delight that segment of our population which rabidly favors public transportation and bicycles over automobiles).

There are many houses like yours in the UK also, but our Govt has clearly decided to legislate first and try to work out the practicalities afterwards - something they seem increasingly prone to do.
Anyway I guess we've veered off the original topic quite a bit - apologies for that and I hope you've gotten your leak fixed OK.

I think the way it is going is that all new cars will be electric fairly soon even in the USA. The strategy will be all manufacturers will have one scalable chassis with different electric motor and battery options (like a skateboard). The model will simply be the body on top. So as far as choice goes the differences will be less and less except for cosmetics. Soon after most companies will buy their skateboard from a few manufacturers making it harder and harder to differentiate on performance. Sad
