2020 XE p300
#23
Now that we have a few km on the clock (R dynamic P300) I am more relaxed about putting the foot down. I've noticed that in dynamic the engine noise seems to be pumped into the cabin, it actually sounds quite good - gruff and throbby. But I dont know whether it is representative of how the car sounds on the outside, I am actually thinking probably not.
This car is seriously good, it reminds me of my first Jag (XF 4.2 V8) but handles better. Just lovely to drive. Heaps different to the previous XE (which I thought was brilliant) but maybe with the standard suspension the different driving style wouldnt be as noticeable.

2020 XE
I’ve had the car for a few months now. Only 2000km so far. I absolutely love the car. I get such a kick every time I hop in. I’ve tried all the modes, except eco, and I love the confidence of this baby on the road. I will drive it this winter but I’m concerned with the P Zeros on. Oh well I’ve got a mode for that and a crossover for plan B. My car is the cats ***!

I had my first little glitch today. It was the lane warning system but it reset as soon as I shut it down. Now when you say it won’t shut off...how do you mean? The guys here are pretty expert from my brief experience. Hell I’m just a guy who likes fast, stable platforms. I always wanted a Jag since I saw my first XKE. I think this car is the most fun I’ve ever had driving. And I’ve owned a 911, an 850R (loved that car), a 68 Firebird HO, a Lexus GS400. All great cars. I love the Jag.

Love the 850R, I had a c70T5 and then an s60R manual (what a monster of a car, if it wasnt for the huge turning circle I would have kept it, but the RWD platform of the Jag makes for massively better handling).
Really enjoying the 2020 XE ourselves, I have to say I think we are very fortunate to have that and the F Type. No problems with ours although some mornings there is a faint petrol odour around it.

Based on my experience the XE is very underrated vehicle. The performance is exceptional. What I was referring to in regards to the on off feature is when stopped at a red light the function is suppose to shut the motor off until you release the brake. Of course it is designed only to work within certain outside temperatures. It's annoying so I do not miss it in the least. That 68 Firebird must have been fun.

Oh the auto shut off feature. I never use it. Can’t be good for the engine. The feature has no memory and I have to push the button every time which makes no sense to me, although it may to a regulator somewhere. I bought the 68 in 72. Very low mileage I think 24k. The VP of the dealership’s wife just dropped it off and walked away. It was filthy. When they cleaned it up it was just like new. British racing green convertible with white interior and a white top with a white HO racing stripe. I couldn’t believe what I’d got when I picked it up. My brother wrecked it when I was in the army. C’est la vie.

I thought to revive this old thread just to say we have now had the 2020 XE since July last year, my wife loves it so much I virtually have to sneak the keys away from her, it just gets better and better to drive. I had thought the previous model turned a bit better but it ended up being a seating issue. Once the bolsters were pumped up the seat really hugs you (and the leather quality is top notch in the HSE) so the car defies inertia no matter how much you want to fling it around.
I had to shuffle cars around a few days back and first move the XE, then my daughter's Mazda2 GT (which is very well kitted out for that price point, I am actually quite fond of the car), honestly you could easily see why the Jag cost 3 times as much, just everything about it is so much better. The interior is more like an XJ in quality these days (absent real leather on the dash) and I could crap on forever about how well it drives.
It wont have the poke of the 380hp version but even though the stats have it as being slower than the 340hp version, you could have fooled me because I would have thought they were on a par.
I would say really it doesnt need the digital dash except that if it didnt happen people would moan. I've tried various configurations on the dash (you can have single dial/twin dial with information on the left middle or right being sat nav/media/vehicle info or whole dash sat nav) and the only one that I like is the traditional twin dials with media information in the middle. Put it this way, I dont get out of the XE with its very fancy digital dash and big screens everywhere and get into my car with its traditional dash and 8 inch screen and think "this is **** I need the other stuff" and to some extent I dont like the sterility of the digital dash against the "texture" of the analogue, but then again I am getting older and things have to move on.
I suppose the point is, dont discount how good this car is just because it doesnt have the 6 in it, it is a cracker of a car.
